DT returning to the US this fall but closest date to me is 8 hours away.
Since I just saw them few months ago would be hesitant, but the band said back then that on the next US tour they would play ALL of Parasomnia!

I might go, I might not. Cheapest ticket near me is $84 and that’s for literally the last row in balcony.

Waiting to see if other bands announce tours, as DT have become pretty low on my priority list.

DT confirmed on Twitter they will play entire new lp.

Might have to drive to Tulsa

I saw DT on Friday at the Tallinn Rock Festival and it was pure awesomeness. The heaviest setlist I’ve seen them do, although shorter because of the festival format. And to think I almost didn’t go, because I had a lot of other things on my mind and was very tired. I’m glad my friend convinced me to go, that’s what good friends are for. Powerwolf were on after DT, and despite being less my cup of tea, they put on a good show and I participated in my first ever mosh pit. My friend got a black eye.

DT covering Echoes by Pink Floyd...in Pompeii!

Seems like this was probably a super magical night for Portnoy. Good for him (them).

It has been a really exciting time to be a DT fan. 15-20 years ago I think you could have made the case that Portnoy was making a lot of self serving setlist decisions while sometimes missing the pulse on what the fans really want, so it was refreshing when Petrucci took over for awhile and instead of rotating constantly started to craft really solid setlists that check off a lot of boxes for fan requests (Space Dye Vest in 2014, A Change of Seasons in 2017, regularly pulling deep cuts that hadn't been played since Mangini joined, etc). But they were definitely starting to run out of steam and the setlist choices were starting to feel a bit uninspired, especially on the DreamSonic tour, so the time was right to go all out on fan service and start rotating setlists again and pulling out random surprises like The Best of Times at Radio City and Echoes in Pompeii. Mike Portnoy is clearly living out his DT fantasies, but in this instance I think it lines up with what a lot of fans want. It's actually exciting to follow what the band is up to and I am really looking forward to all the official bootlegs that are likely in the pipeline.

In the Arms of Morpheus is a solid overture, but I admit I should probably have paid more attention to it because I'm sure every melody in this shows up somewhere else and I wasn't listening intently,
Here is a breakdown of the different themes in the lp opener

Some RLongering going on in the Dream Theater forum regarding low ticket sales for the upcoming tour (not that I think the dooming is people trolling/baiting).

It’s a fascinating topic to me though because it kind of proves that a DT law of gravity is still in effect even with Portnoy back: the second leg of a new album tour never sells well. The dooming in the DT fan community has reliably happened every time they extended a tour since The Astonishing, possibly earlier.

But Mosh! This is the first leg of the Parasomnia tour!

General audiences, the people who allow DT to be a major touring act for a niche type of music, probably don’t see it that way but rather an extension of a tour they already attended earlier this year. This will be my first time seeing DT twice in a calendar year and even as a hardcore fan I am kinda scratching my head at this reality.

Imo there are two ways of looking at it, either audiences saw the 40th as partially a Parasomnia tour since the album was out by the time they came to America and they played songs from it, or they see the upcoming tour as an extension of the 40th touring they already saw. Or they’re casuals and don’t need to see another DT show after getting a greatest hits “wet dream” setlist in Portnoy’s words. While I get the logic, I still kinda feel like they made a mistake not touring the reunion immediately and giving some breathing time in between to build hype for the new album and an associated tour. What we ended up with is a bit of a reverse of Ed Hunter/BNW where one tour dwarfs the other in terms of hype and scope, unfortunately in DT’s case, their version of Ed Hunter is going to be the one where they play a bunch of new music.

I am curious what this means for the band going forward if the ticket sales really are underwhelming. I said many times before that realistically the 40th is going to be the last crack at big venues for DT and they are likely going to have to scale down afterward. It’s not a big deal and I think it’s normal for the type of band they are. DT under Petrucci’s leadership has been pretty reactionary though and I wonder if that will still be the case even with the lineup change. There’s enough couch band management around here so I’ll try to resist, but ideally I hope they see the opportunity in downsizing their tours a little bit to focus more on playing deepcuts to satisfy hardcore fans and maintain an emphasis on new material.

I think that’s all valid. Seeing Dream Theater twice within 10 months feels like an extension of the same tour. They absolutely should have altered this tour schedule to allow more time in between.
