What if Adrian played/wrote some of Janick's solos?

The 2nd is simply because they wanted to hide Adrian's contribution and solos are usually recorded last.

If, for some very strange reason, they decided to do it live again, I think H would play it.

Adrian left the band before they recorded the album, while they were looking at what material they had, not while they were laying down tracks. Why would he swoop back in, record the solo and go "bye again guys!". He wasn't in the band, nor were they trying to hide his song contribution.

My point is that there's no use in thinking they were 'hiding' Adrian's contributions.
He left, they were authorized to release HIY, they recorded the final take and gave the solo to the new guy. End of the story. Note also that H isn't credited in any other way for the album (no "guitars on Hooks in You" nor the likes).

Had they wanted to hide H's role (but why?) they would have simply discarded Hooks in You as a whole, or tried to buy the song credits. Both of which they didn't.

What I meant by "hiding" was having a random Adrian solo in the middle of the album despite having left the band. Bad terminology on my part.

Well as I said, in order to completely hide H's contributions they got to keep on trying to write a new song, but since time was running up I assume they might've decided to include it 'cause "c'mon guys, this is the last".

I tried to come up with an answer that completed the pre-chorus of When The River Runs Deep but I couldn't fit the "can't take no more lying" part. Or maybe I did?
