Yeah, I agree they mean he is part of the Maiden family, i very much don't think they consider him a hired gun, you don't record 5 albums with a guy if you don't respect his work.

I think the sound on No Prayer is as much a progression as they had going into there Somewhere in Time period, in that period they started using Gailer Kruger amps & bringing in guitar synths etc so that was always going to sound smoother than their standard Marshall Heads from the early...
