Iron Maiden: In the Studio book coming out

One of the best "behind the scenes" interviews re: studio stuff was actually a guitar tab/sheet music book that came out in the 80s that covered the first 4 albums.  Steve had an interview section in it and actually commented in detail on almost of those tracks (e.g. who wrote what part...

    A Question about concert venues.

Maiden is still pulling an average of 10,000+ a night in the states which is pretty damn impressive considering most of their 80's contempories are playing 500 person night clubs (and Maiden continues to receive little to no radio support for their new stuff).  I did see some empty sections...

Deconstructing Eddie: My Iron Maiden Songs & Albums Countdown

I love that description! Interesting initial review on Killers.  I do agree agree on a few points, but I've always been in the minority as I think the first album is basically crap (aside, from phanton, free, and the ubiquitous title track) and that Killers was vastly superior. Killers, like...

What's the best proof to show that Iron Maiden is NOT satanic

I'll have to dig up the article but I recall Steve being interviewed back in the 80s about this and he basically said something like: "I'm married, I have kids, I donate to charity, I love my parents, and I celebrate christmas like everyone else.  I'm a regular bloke.  If I were really a...

Deconstructing Eddie: My Iron Maiden Songs & Albums Countdown

Uh...you're roughly a third of the way through the catalogue and the tone of your reviews is still mostly negative...when are you gonig to start showing some love?  :S

How old are the maiden fans?

Too awesome, man.  I'm 37.  Same sort of thing for me--Maiden was there through childhood, moving to a different country, high school, college, big job interviews (motivation before going in  :shred:) marriage, mortgage payments, and now the birth of my daugther (in a few weeks!)  Still deciding...

Is it sacrilege not to like # of the beast or RTT Hills ?!

I've come to the conclusion that I only really "like" RTTH for nostalgic purposes (I remember it getting some decent airplay back in the day) and it helped get me on to the Maiden bandwagon back in the 80s.  I guess it served its purpose.  I'm not overly found of it anymore. I would much rather...

    No Prayer for the Dying

    Completely agree.

What aspect of their songs has Iron Maiden been most consistently good at?

Melodies for sure...but also I would include something that's not on your list:  Atmosphere. Maiden have always been adept at creating a certain 'mood' with their records.  SIT 'sounds like it's album cover' -- it has that sci-fi feel running throughout (thanks in large part to all of the...

    Raising Hell

I had some friends over to watch when it was first released and I was completely embarassed as everyone howled with laughter at the cheesiness of it.  The sound was muddy, the 'magic' corny, and the vibe was weird.  It's hard to imagine that this was the same band that released LAD.

Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

Yeah, I was surprised to learn that Dave and Nicko have lived in the states for years--didn't know that tidbit about Steve in the bahamas, either.

TFF Product mentions: How much gear do Maiden get for free?

It depends on the company but most of them "tier" their endorsers with "tier 1" folks getting stuff for free for the reason you mentioned above.  My buddy was endorsing Warwick basses as a "tier 5" (or whatever their equivalent was) and got a 10% discount...

    Bruce's voice straining

I've been wondering that as well.  I think several of the tunes would have benefited from some vocal layering, or even a touch of reverb to help his voice along.

    When the Wild Wind Blows

The Man Who Would Be King I am going to run the other way on this one. I thought it was a throw-away track suffering from a serious case of "I've heard this Jethro Tull inspired melody 4,000 times before ".  The lyrics are really good, and the twist at the end is a nice lyrical surprise by...

Are you pleased with Maiden's direction?

I take that back--you're right.  Ghost of the Navigator and The Wickerman hit pretty hard and are really good tunes...maybe it was just the drawn out stuff on AMOLOD that left a bad taste in my mouth.  Perhaps TFF will prove me wrong?
