A more general running query: what music do we all listen to? I tend to do mostly older rock / metal and am going through the process of making a longer playlist for eventual longer races.

Honestly, Iron Maiden themselves are a good parallel - The Trooper is their most popular song in general based on Spotify data, yet it doesn't make the vast majority of Top 10s on this forum.

Based on what? I don't know what metric this statement is based upon - and even then, you've moved the goalposts by talking about the albums they come from rather than the songs themselves.

I did say it was a spicy take! I just don't care for the early Priest sound. The only 70s album of theirs I didn't put in my personal bottom 6 (along with the Ripper albums) was Stained Class.

No arguments there; I just think it is sufficiently popular that it would be surprising for it to lose to something that's not an obvious frontrunner for the competition or one of the specific artists (Priest, Dio) that this forum leans towards.

All personal feelings about both songs aside, Through The Fire and Flames is one of the best known metal songs full stop. For example, on Spotify, it's sitting at over 244 million streams, which is higher than: - Every Black Sabbath song except Paranoid, Iron Man, and War Pigs - Every Maiden...

I think the only one I have multiple copies of is Powerslave, and that's because the first copy I bought was the remaster that moved the intro to Powerslave to the end of Back in the Village.

An update to this: I went to a taster session this week. I had a good time so I've signed up fully and will be returning. It helped that the signup cost was noticeably less than I previously thought. :p

Stratovarius, Scorpions, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Dragonforce. Through The Fire and Flames in particular is just an iconic metal song and I'm still sad that ZP is no longer the vocalist.

Musically I'd say they're broadly symphonic, but within that umbrella they experiment with a lot of different genres - power metal, death metal, black metal, even a little bit of dance on the previous album. I think most people could find at least one song they like on any of their albums - I...

There are two songs out from an upcoming Seven Spires album, due out June 21st: I like the first, but the second is not for me.

My couple of spicy takes: 1 - Killing Machine, like most of Priests 70's output, is bland and forgettable. 2 - Take On All The World is actually the song I like most from the album.

Slightly surprised BOC / The Darkness is so one-sided. I know I'm contributing to that, but to me it's by far the closest matchup this round.
