Adverts on the forum page……Question

Quick question and one for the mods really I guess. I understand the need for a bit of revenue but is there any way to affect the adverts that pop up everywhere all over the forum, either to reduce them or change them?

Every time I log in there’s semi naked women splashed all over the forum page advertising dating sites or the best one “Ukrainian Milfs”

I’m no prude and don’t mind this as such but when I’m reading the forum in my phone it’s a bit weird in public if someone glances over at what I’m looking at. The other day the wife saw me reading the forum and thought I was up to no good. I had to convince her I’m not a perv just a nerd discussing iron maiden with a bunch of strangers online

She reckons the adverts are based off my internet searches but I can definitely state I’m not looking up mature woman hook up sites!

Call her now, the ad that I can see now is for Candlelight Concerts in Edinburgh!

Hi guys, thanks for letting me know. I'll reach out to the admin on this to make sure that the ads meet the quality we would like to see.

@AncientMarine_Essex : if you're using Firefox, you can add and use great anti-ads extensions like Ghostery, Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin (I use them three in the same time) in your browser. ;)

Well, how to say this delicately, ads are usually based on cookies which in turn know your general browsing history so...

Which in my case, all my ads right now are for home insurance and Domino's pizza.

this is what I assumed but I can assure you I’m not searching mature women dating sites.

In fact I usually access this forum from my mobile phone and a month ago I changed phone providers and got a new phone plus I use it as a work phone so I have to have various security protocols installed on the phone so even if I wanted to try and access dodgy dating sites or porn sites etc my phone won’t allow me too.

The vast majority of the ads I see are generally based on my browsing history, though I get a few random ones which, while usually more innocent than "dating" sites, have nothing to do with anything I've previously searched. Recent ones have included the Imperial War Museum in Duxford (haven't been there in 10+ years), gambling sites (never visited one, don't gamble) and "items I'll love" from eBay. I do use eBay, but the items in question were an old car, a piece of timber and... Excel spreadsheets?

Nothing in my browsing history is even remotely related to pensions or hair transplants, I can assure you.

I didn't know you could do this, I also thought they were either random or based on your search history.
Or whatever Zuckenberg is using to spy on us. But it must be faulty.
I just got ad for car rental in Croatia, but I own two cars.
Will I get the same ads as you guys if I own two Ukranian MILFs?

I might be mistaken, but didn't Perun or some of the mods had a post that ad-blockers were actually bad for the forum?
I was thinking of getting one, but his post made a lot of sense and I changed my mind.

Just got 3 Kiss ads for the End Of The Road world tour.

I’d gladly donate money to this site/forum just to get and “ad-free” version. But ad blockers also do the trick.

Ah ok this one makes sense:

"Cooking at home may contain unhealthy ingredients".
Could there be any correlation between ads and staff online, I wonder? :innocent:
