Speaking of people who should give this thing a shot.....
Be careful what you wish for...

Purgatory II: So Far Away

1. Thinking Of An Age-Old Dream Of Mirrors

(Harris, Gers | 9:21)
Have you ever felt the past is the future
And you know it now
A resurrected dream of a half-assed time
It’s really now, it’s really happening

All my hopes since I was seven
This isn’t hell and it isn’t heaven
Did I pass out in a 7-11?
I just can’t take no more

I never dreamed that I would write
A sequel to that musical blight
I never dreamed that I would write
A failure for myself

(repeat 27 times)

The dream is true, I’m stuck here with you
The dream is true, I’m stuck here with you

2. Places I Will Now See, Of Madness

(Smith | 5:42)
Up in the sky the angel’s flying
While down below the fires burn
Here in the grey we all are crying
And hearing this poor sequel churn

Oh - my ears they hear but something’s queer
Oh - my heart is heavy and my mind is full of fear

Like the killers and the killed
Scream “Charlay!” and feel the thrill
When all you hear is drunken, slurry sadness
Like a grifter I will show
Just how shallow my well goes
And all you’ll hear is uninspired badness
This song isn’t “Sea Of Madness”!

3. Empire Of The Clouds Over Which My Mind Will Fly
(Dickinson, Harris, Murray | 23:45)
To turn to wrong
To want to be, to belong
To be part of things
At any cost, what life is lost

What point begin
Fighter spirit, will to win
Make man decide
Take the wrong or righteous road

It’s the thinnest line ‘tween love and hate
Divide that you can see
A grey place between black and white
Titanic, possibly?
Path chosen for you and me

Fighting the tears as they troll you
Feeling at once happy and sad
Watching the genius above you
While down below insanity lies

I will hope, my blimp will fly
And I will live forever
Heart will die, my blimp won’t fly
And I’ll be here forever

(repeat 69 times)

The thin line between homage and plagiarism

4. My Body Tries To Leave My Soul, Intruders!
(Dickinson | 3:53)
I ride the cosmic streams of time
I am the fool you cannot trust
My body tries to leave my soul
I split my brain, melt through the floor

Half-lives, won’t live again
Half-lives, I’m not the one

Leave my soul, intruders!
In the whirling void of night
Leave my soul, intruders!
And I’m crying for the light
Leave my soul, intruders!
Though I’ve no life of my own
I’m in purgatory
Where no one has a throne

5. The Future’s Shadow Of The Valley
(Gers, Harris | 7:33)
Wandering aimlessly
In a cold dark mist I follow
Memories rising from the past
The future’s shadow
Without sunlight things are born
To the dead of nightmares
Soulless demons laughing
In a place I see, of madness

Listen closely to the heavens’ call
Praying hard for my world not to end
Try to fight against Satan and all
Will I satisfy my penance then?

Asking no questions
Telling no lies
A cry for freedom
Or wishing that I would just die
Mind over matter
Cry over sins
My life is over now
Ending before it begins...again

6. Through The Edge Of Darkness I’ll Be Led
(Harris, Gers | 6:39)
I’ve looked into the heart of darkness
Where somewhat sinful journeys end
When you’ve faced the heart of darkness
Your purgatory’s on the mend

I brought it up just like room service
Thought that I might get what I want
But then they fucked up my whole order
And I’d never get another one

Oh!

I know, Satan,
That you’ve done this work before
I’ve got a problem
You can help me out, I’m sure
Old Yahweh’s gone rogue
And his methods are unsound
You send me up there
And I will take him down

He’s acting like he’s God
An insane lunatic
He looks down on me
With EX-treme prejudI-I-I-ice
I’m stuck in purgatory
But I’d like to go
I’ll be more sinful
And that’s all you need to know

Here I am, the knife in my hand
And now I understand why Jesus Sr. must die

7. Another Time, Another Place, Another Life
(Harris | 3:23)
As I lay here, bored to tears and dead
Sweet smiles and faces in my head
Oh, what it is, I wanna know
Please, won’t you tell me, I’ve got to go

There’s a feeling that’s inside me
Yelling “please take me away”
But I’m so tired of dying
I might as well live today

(repeat 3 times)

8. All My Wasting Love’s Inside Of You
(Dickinson, Gers | 5:51)
Maybe one day I’ll be a normal man
Up till now I’m doing the best I can
Long walks, long stalks
From beside to inside, beside to inside

Dream on daughters, while you can
Brought your slaughters, I will oblige you one
All of our lives, playing out slowly
In a place without time

Spend your days full of stalkiness
Spend your nights full of lovingness
Wasting love in a desperate caress
Straying far from the light

9. Please Take Me Away
(Smith, Harris, Dickinson | 7:48)
In the gloom the gathering storm abates
In the dream, the fantasies await
The call to Paul, to yammer at the waifs
To stroke their thighs, shove evil in their face

Been here so long, the thrills no longer seem
To turn Lil’ Paul from flesh and blood to steel
In purgatory we all must now beseech
Satan or God to please extend their reach

Chugging we go
Only beer on our side
To the edge of our minds
And we rush to decide
To the slaughter we’re led
Though we’re already dead
I wish I was alive
Can’t just take this in stride

Oh God, please take me away
Cos I just can’t see this through
Satan, please take me away
Cos that option sounds good too

(repeat 4 times)

Please take me away
Take me away
Take me away

(repeat 10 times)

10. So Far Away
(Knopfler, Harris | 5:06)
Here I am again in this mean old town
And you’re so far away from me
And where are you when the sun goes down
You’re so far away from me

You’re so far away from me
So far I just can’t see
You’re so far away from me
You’re so far away from me, all right

I’m tired of thinking of an age-old dream
When you’re so far away from me
See you’ve been in one time
And I’ve been in another place
And you’re so far away from me

You’re so far away from me
Too far to float up beside me
You’re so far away from me
You’re so far away from me

11. Purgatory II
(Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammett, Harris, McBrain | 6:36)
Lay beside me
Tell me what I’ve done
Speak the words I want to hear
So my purgatory’s done

The door is locked now
But it’s opened if I’m true
If my body tries to leave
Then my soul belongs to you

What I’ve felt, what I’ve been through
Feel all my love inside of you
Your dream’s age-old
Shall I split my brain for you?

Yeah, what I’ve felt, what I’ve read
Something’s clutching at my head
Could you be there
Cos I’m the one who waits for you
Are you in purgatory too...?

Well, that was a lot of fun! Tracks 7 and 8 must be my favorites. I love the long list of writers in track 11, and there may be something wrong with me, but I actually find the lyrics romantic. <3

Wild Spambot appears!

7H3 NUMB3R5 0F 7H3 B3A5

Maiden had finally did it:
An album they always wanted to make, an album to please the fans.
An album to satisfy older fans, an album to bring in new hordes of fans .
An album with completely new approach, an album done by numbers (pun not intended).

All in one.

2. Hooks in U2

(Dickinson | 4:08)
Maiden had finally decided to comment on current and past music scene, and boy, they spared nobody. But for some particular reason, Bruce focused mainly on U2 and while he rams on about how "there's more truth in one Slayer song than whole U2 discography" it's the ending that really sparks the song. Since Bruce spent last year in Italy shooting a movie about planes and such, a whisper at the end brings a special touch to this one: "Bono, non si buono..."

3. Running 3
(Murray, Gers, Smith| 1:12)

Finally, a song that only 3 amigos made. And instrumental! And all the beast from each one! Slow acoustic intro from Dave, heavenly heavy riff from Adrian, despicably tight solo from Janick, but... Since Steve and Bruce were forbidden from even entering the studio and Kevin Shirley is only good for giving thumbs up, 3 amigos start at the same time doing their own thing, explaining song's length. At first, it sounds like un-coherent mess, but if you listen this one with EdPhon3s... It's still a mess, only you paid 300 $ for phones with Eddie on it.

4. Die With 4 Boots On
(Harris| 8:53)

Steve reads a book and writes a song about it, again. This time is The Deer Hunter. Remember that part in the book where De Niro doesn't want to lend his extra boots? Well, this is song about it. When the critics attacked him how can he glorify his avarice so much, Steve explained the song is about making a stance. But it didn't help that news reporters, again, dug out his tax papers. Steve admits his love for homeland has faded and changes the name from "British Lion" to "Bahama Lion"

5. No More 5s
(Dickinson, Gers, Murray| 10:33)

After a massive success of The Red and the Black, Bruce decides to make another song about cards, brings Dave and Janick. But, only card game the know is "Go fish", so he tries to overcompensate the lyrics by repetition. He wanted a 32 repeat of bridge"No more 5s", Steve wanted a 24 "Go fish" chorus. They both agreed a 42 repeats. Bridge and chorus each.

6. 74e Numb3r5 0f the B3a5t (6666)
(Harris, Dickinson | 4:39)

You know there's no fucking around when, after the scream, Bruce yells: "Six thousand times more evil!" This title song becomes an instant classic that they open the show with it on their forthcoming tour. Actually, the song becomes so popular, that they drop Wrathchild at the end of the show in the middle of the tour, and replace it with this one. Maiden Fans from MaidenFans forum are happy because now they can discuss how much does Bruce voice gets strained since they can compare same song from the beginning and the end of the same show.

7. Judgement of 7th
(Harris, Murray, Dickinson, Gers, Smith, McBrain| 8:23)

First one that credits the whole band. Why? Well, for the first time, all 6 of them decided to tell their story on Barry McKay case. Lyrics kind of "steal" the show here.

8. The Thin 9 Between 10 and 8
(Harris, Dickinson | ?:??)

You thought Lateralus was a musical mathematical masterpiece. You thought wrong! With demo name "Proggy" each and every member takes it up a notch. What they forgot is how everybody actually sucks at math, making every take different. 3 months in Paris later (yes, the rumors were true) they ended up with 57 different takes ranging from 04:15 to 35:45 and at one point they just said: "Fuck it! Press them all!" This unprecedented move put the album (or albums) on first place on almost every chart and (finally!) boosted ticket sales in USA.

* Bonus: 2 Minutes 2 Midnight 2
(Smith, Dickinson | 5:24)

This song was occasionally considered for the opener but since nobody could put finger on what time would that actually make, they decided to drop it. Again, only on some cases, making some discs ever rarer.

Aftermath:

Nicko claims this is their best album ever.
Bruce writes a book about writing a book. Goes on book tour, adds chapters to book and writes about going on book tour.
Steve changes (again) name of his band from "Bahama Lion" to "Panama Lion". Barry McKay had a dog named Panama. Both Barry and Van Halen sue Steve.
Due to abnormal issues of the album on the market, collectors try to attain every copy from every country. An impossible and expensive task. Due to this, Germany bankrupts. EU falls apart just when Britain decided to come back into the flock again.
Steve changes name of the band to British Lion again.
While Europeans decide what to do next with their politics, both Trump and Putin try to assert their dominance resulting in WWIII.
Iron Maiden release a new beer.

2. Hooks in U2
When I need to poo I turn on U2
“(You Are) Lemon” always does it for me
Hearing their anthems makes me want to pay ransoms
To free my eardrums from their captivity
“Stone Cold Crazy”, “Breaking The Silence”
Anything beats mediocrity
I need some grooves to drown out this sound
But I only have pop discs lying around

Hooks in U2
Hooks in Creed
Hooks in the Celine for that Dion feeling
No Vince Neil, fat or thin
No Metallica or Megadeth to spin
8. The Thin 9 Between 10 and 8
When a 13’s 4 too long
And a 7 feels wrong
A 4 plus 6 is just too much
But 4 plus 4 is not enough

At what point do we begin
Demanding that our 9’s be thin?
How can a number exercise?
I could be wrong, but I don’t know

There’s a thin 9 between 10 and 8
Higher than 5, but lower than 11 and 12
There’s a fat 9 which I truly hate
But everyone does have the right
To like numbers after 8
* Bonus: 2 Minutes 2 Midnight 2
Lay eggs beside me
The golden goose is loose
The napalm screams of human flames
We share this Belsen feast (yeah!)

The clock cracks open
But the hands still threaten doom
Blackened pride still burns inside
Killing unborn in the womb
We’re killing unborn in the womb
We’re killing unborn in there...

What I’ve felt, what I’ve been told
Time zones make my head explode
If here it’s 4, does that make it 6 for you?

Yeah, fortune, fame, glamour, pain
Gonna go to war again
In your time zone will the clock now say for you
2 minutes to midnight too...?

What I’ve felt, what I’ve been told
Time zones make my head explode
If here it’s 4, does that make it 6 for you?

Yeah, fortune, fame, glamour, pain
Gonna go to war again
In your time zone will the clock now say for you
2 minutes to midnight too...?
That's gold.

Would you describe yourselves as a niche band?
Incredible niche, unless the mainstream likes a band that writes about Shakespeare plays one album, does a Hitler biography on the next album, does whatever the hell they want on the third album, and so forth. Oh, and switching from metal to alt and stuff like that throughout.

I want you guys to cover ‘Diary of Jane’ and some Linkin Park songs.
