Iron Maiden Covers

Am I the only Maiden fan that misses the covers that the boys used to record as b-sides for their singles? What would you guys think if the Maiden camp were to start recording and releasing albums of covers. I mean they did collect most of their b-sides together for The Best Of The B-Sides collection. They have stated in the past that these covers didn't take a long time to record as they were songs that they knew and loved so the recording of such an album would not take that long. They could put one out every two or three years as a stop gap between official releases. They could even be themed, e.g. NWOBHM, Prog, Folk Rock etc etc. Personaly I would love to hear them take on And The Bands Played On by Saxon. Surely there was never a song more suited for the three guitar line up? What do you guys Think? What would you like to hear?

There are covers that I really love (Cross Eyed Mary being my favorite), but I woul HATE Maiden recording a whole cover album and they would never do that. See them entering the studio just to record other bands songs ?

Totally agree with Harrisdevot there. Not just that Crossed eyed mary is my fav, but no way should or will that happen. I do however miss the B-Side covers. They have recorded some great ones over the years. Really enjoy Blazes Dr Dr. Trouble is, A and B sides are a thing of the past....:angry-:

I have said elsewhere on this forum, I am not convinced that Maiden do very well with their cover versions. Oddly enough, I do think their best cover version was for Doctor Doctor, despite never really being a fan of Blaze.

With Bruce on vocals, I think their cover of Thin Lizzy's Massacre was the best - and find it really odd that it did not make Best Of The B-sides (I only heard it because it was on the bonus disc for the 95 re-issue of SSOASS).

The covers are just few and far between now but so are the albums. They did give us a cover of Space Truckin’ about 2 years ago and we know they still have unreleased covers of ZZ Top “Tush” and Thin Lizzy “Angel of Death” from the AMOLAD sessions.

Haven't heard the Space Truckin' cover. Where was that? I am guessing a tribute version or charity effort?

It was originally supposed to be a B-Side on one of the AMOLAD singles. Together with Angel of Death by Thin Lizzy, Tush by ZZ Top, and Focus by Hocus Pocus - the only one that actually did become a B-Side of sorts. But hey, we got a live version of Iron Maiden instead, so that was cool.

I knew of the others but not of Space Truckin'. :)

I'd love to hear the Lizzy track though, with all it's drama (could have sounded ace!) but Tush was instantly forgettable, judging from the footage on the AMOLAD dvd.
Hocus Pocus was pretty cool too!

With Bruce being my most favorite singer in the history of everything, there are TONS of songs I'd love to hear Maiden cover or at least Bruce singing on. Pretty much any or all of the following: Ozzy/Sabbath/Dio, Queensryche, Sabaton, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Scorpions, Uriah Heep, Blaze Bayley, Symphony X, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Dragonforce, Joey fronted Anthrax, Type O Negative, Def Leppard, Styx, Rush, Fates Warning, Iced Earth and many others. If only there was a magical device that would turn any singer into Bruce's voice! I don't think it would work very well for death metal though.

I hope Maiden keeps recording covers but only on singles. Massacre is great indeed. And i like a lot those covers of Nicko of Maiden songs lol
