Out here I am the rare breed, since recently, because (in my memory at least) Born as Stranger always ended up 2nd (or not?).

From a worldwide perspective I am 100% sure that you are a very rare group of people with this preference. Preferring Ghost in the Machine over Born as a Stranger is like preferring The Number of the Beast over Hallowed, Phantom, Rime or another immensely popular Maiden epic. I remember the impact of Born as a Stranger when I saw Blaze. It was really the highlight of the show (with most audience involvement) together with Stare at the Sun, of course.

But it's OK to be rare. I have my own Maiden preferences as you know.
