Nicko at NAMM!

This is getting worrying. It's the second interview in which Nicko refuses to say anything about a new album. :S
Perhaps I missed it but he was not asked about it, was he? That's more hopeful than refusing to answer a question about it.

@ Travis : I apologize for another off-topic answer.
@ Brucie : no, he said, AFTER the release of TFF that he he thought Maiden still had two albums in them. He definitely said that. My only concern is that in some of his interviews about is solo album, he seemed to anticipate Maiden's end. Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm not very worried about this : those guys do have the energy to keep on going, and they allow themselves a lot of space to do other stuff so they don't get bored. There are more and more examples af bands with very old guys, and they are not (not all) ridiculous.

No, he wasn't directly asked about it. Still, talking about the future and not saying anything about recording sounds a bit discouraging.

I think Maiden may do the same trick Priest does. The extensive world touring is probably coming to an end near, but they might release another album after the next one provided they're not touring it too heavily.

I still expect only one album but it might go like this if there really is gonna be two more albums :

2014 - New album
2015 - World tour of the new album
2016 - Break
2017 - A smaller tour
2018 - New album and farewell tour

With regards to the new album, he simply says "who knows what's gonna happen after that!" when speaking about the end of the 2013 tour. So I don't think there is anything drawn up yet...

I'd imagine that after the last 2013 show they'll have a break. Everyone goes about their own business for awhile and then they meet up after 4 - 6 months and hopefully start looking at some new material. Which means if we are lucky we could start hearing about a new album late 2014...But who knows!

2018 seems quite unlikely to me. Nicko will be 66-years-old then, I'm not sure he'll physically be able to make it. I hope I'm wrong, of course.

I wish they did if it would make the band continue longer but I don't think Maiden will do such a small tour like Priest. Instead they'll go out with a bang.

Yes, it doesn't seem likely to me, either. But if it were to happen, probably it'd go like the schedule on my post.

I dunno why Nicko wouldn't be able to play at 66. If he can play at 60, dunno why he wouldn't at 66. Ofc I wouldn't like it to happen, but it'd be OK with me if they continued without him if it meant more albums and tours.

I remember an interview with Nicko in which he told that he once told Steve that if he couldn't do it anymore they need to take another drummer. Steve had replied him something in the vein of: "Of course not, then we'll quit."

Yep, Steve said he is not going to work with another drummer.
And I didn't say he won't be able to play, I said he was unlikely to play - that's different. Who knows what's going to happen five years from now, it may be someone else who doesn't feel up to it, not Nicko.

Agreed with Prowler, 66 isn't that old. Here's the tour schedule of the godfather of British Blues and 80 years old, John Mayall: http://www.johnmayall.com/tour.html

There is a slight difference though since Nicko is a drummer, as he himself would probably say "the hardest working bloke in the band!", he can't just stand still on stage and concentrate on his playing, his job is a little more physical, together with Bruce with all the running he does around the stage.

Not to take anything away from Nicko because he still nails the songs live but he has begun to make it easier for himself live. He relies more on simpler fills and techniques. I'm sure also that if they were to start adding some of the faster old Maiden tracks that that would kill him live...

But well, Peart is still going too, same age as Nicko.

I am very impressed by Peart (3 months + 7 days younger indeed). Complex drumming, long sets, not the smallest tours either.

But Maiden's music is very intense as well and at times fast. So respect for both!

Sixies, you got a point there.. And, really??? Have you noticed difference in Nicko's playing live??? Last time I saw him haven't notice such thing (2008)

Like I said I think he still nails the set list they put together. Perhaps also because most of the songs they play are all on the backbone. But yes, there are times where you can hear him throw in quick rolls on the toms (this has happened more frequently on the albums too) instead of doing more elaborate fills. He has also come out and confessed to Maiden slowing down the tracks and not playing them as fast as they did back when...But there is nothing wrong with it really, it is OK to make it easier for oneself.

Sorry, but I think you made it up that it was Nicko's idea to slow them down because he couldn't manage it anymore. I never heard that, please provide the link if you have, and I'll stand corrected! :)
I always understood that the band wanted to slow some songs down (like Hallowed or FOTD) because it started to sound ridiculous (I disagree with that by the way; I preferred the faster live version of FOTD from the nineties).

No I didn't say that it was his idea. I'm saying that the band as a whole can't do the songs at the speed they used to and decided to slow them down, Nicko came out with that in a interview quite recently. That is also a way for Maiden to make it easier for themselves, including making it easier for Nicko because they are getting up there in age...

Still, I don't remember that the band said they can not do it anymore. I thought they did not want to do it anymore.

You're probably right, but I can't imagine that they confessed this (weakness).
So, I am still curious to read/hear this.
