Judas Priest

Two Priest related questions -

1. Were you all aware they also recently came out with a retrospective documentary called The Ballad of Judas Priest done by the Banger crew? I did not. They have no clue how to promote even something like this, totally second rate.

2. Is said movie releasing for home viewing or streaming? I went and saw the Iron Maiden and Ghost movies in the theater. This one I'm not even sure if the band recalls that it's out. So weird.

I never gave KK's Priest a chance because of the band name but also song names. It is just ridiculous.
 
Sad Wings of Destiny is being released again this november and advertised as a remaster taken from the master tapes. Be aware that, after the rights to their first two albums changed hands, this is going to be the first time that the band supervises and gets financial benefit from this release, much like the recent 50th Anniversary edition of Rocka Rolla. Gull won't see a penny.

Ken was the sole author of the songs on the first album, so I guess he's responsible for that. Also, in the interviews he gives, he seems to consider KK's Priest a valid continuation of Judas Priest. IMO he came up with the ridiculous titles. Sounds logical to me. But yeah, they're just... Ugh. I guess they discourage some folks from listening to KK's Priest's material.

Hill said that the band have no control over the movie. They saw it and they liked it, but it's the whole procedure of releasing it is not up to the band. They appeared in the movie, but nothing more than that. It's an independent production. He also said they have no idea about the worldwide release date. Which is a shame since the premiere took place in... February.

I heard it and it sounds great. It doesn't really change the source material, but it sounds much more spacious than the remasters I'm familiar with. I think that other fans will love it. The physical copy I own isn't impressive - there's no booklet or anything like that, it's just an ecopack, but at least it's mentioned that it's a limited tour edition. The sound itself is pretty great.

There's gonna be a full remix (Rocka Rolla-type of thing), but no release date has been revealed yet. Tbh I think that the remaster is good enought, but I'm curious to hear the remixed version. Some other archival releases are also planned, although no details were given. My bet would be the Reading concert and I'd be happy to hear a good recording of it. They also have some demos from the SWoD sessions, so we may also expect them to be released at some point.

And yet, during the recording of Turbo, he was not up to it either (in those days, it was more likely to be related to addiction), and some of his parts were recorded by none other than Nathan East!

Ian Hill has a much better track record for appearing at gigs than appearing in the studio. He's also not on Painkiller (any "bass" that you hear is Don Airey playing a Minimoog).
