For the fans back then, how big was the hype for Brave New World?

I remember Maiden releasing a downloadable clip of the wicker man in whatever format it was at the time. A little blue Windows icon on our family PC.

I couldn't believe I had new Bruce Dickinson Maiden, it felt surreal. But the music was also incredible. Heavy and sharp in a way I couldn't remember Maiden sounding for years.

I remember a hot summer of listening to the new album and how absolutely massive it felt to me, how it took me to these giant expansive places where nomads wandered and navigators sailed the seas.

Been a long time since I was so in the moment with a record! Was a great feeling.
 
It meant that Iron Maiden were back. The new Album cover , the title, it all felt like the old days were back and it was fantastic.

I have to admit as a fan in the 80`s no album after BNW has really hit the heights again properly for me but i would never have believed Maiden would be still going and be as big as they are now. Their live presence this century has been immense and an absolute pleasure to witness.
 
It was the album that demonstrated Maiden were truly back. The reunion announcement back in February 1999 was something that I had wanted to hear since 1993, and the Ed Hunter tour showed how great the band were live with Bruce and Adrian back. Brave New World was such a massive improvement over what they had released during the 90s that it signalled a bright future for the band.

Although I prefer A Matter of Life and Death among the post reunion albums, there is something special in Brave New World, probably associated with it being their first one as a recharged band.

I didn't think they would become as big as they had since then though. The mix of new material and retrospective tours was a strategy that worked wonders!
 
I was in high school and I remember my friend, who got me into Maiden in the first place and I, pulling an all-nighter the night before at one of those internet cafes, with another friend of ours. Then we went to the mall and got the CD once the store opened.
We were pretty out of it, there was probably some drinking involved as well. The store owner decided that we weren't assertive enough asking for the album so he gave us some spiel about it.

I went home, put it in the cd player and listened to the album until I finally fell asleep.
It was a pretty cool experience.
 
It was kind of a big thing. I was 25 years old back then and was deep inside the Maiden thing from 1986 on already, and it was sort of a sensation. And I remember, witnessing them coming out on stage during Ed Huntour was amazing. What a moment. Sure, it was a little before BNW, but the tour itself gave BNW short after a massive push. Very interesting times back then.

For sure that tour was one of the greatest. The setlist and the band were great. And as you say when they started the show people were going mad . Then bnw made them to go bigger and the nexts albums make them to reach this current statuts
 
Hype was massive - but in the UK only among Maiden fans and those in adjacent bits of the metal community.

There was still a zeitgeist of nu metal and an established habit of mocking Maiden. Lots of dismissiveness abounded in the UK, that metal still sounded and looked like Maiden in the new millennium.

It took years for the the more general rock / metal community worship of Maiden to develop in the UK, let alone any kind of popular culture affection, which is really just a few years old to my reckoning …

Strange now to recall Maiden were not an established legacy band at that point and were still relatively young (42ish) at BNW, fighting to reclaim their standing.

During 90s they were still old for the rest of new bands,and with each album and historic tour they become (again) what they are now 27 years after. I havent seen or i cant remember a band to go that down and the rise up to this level. Becuase gnr metallica acdc and many others always had big crowds. Even gnr without slash did big crowds and big tours. Not like now,but still good attendance
 
From what I remember it was massive for Maiden fans who had stuck with them through the 90's. I think it took a while for the fans who abandoned them during that period. I remember going to the metal 2000 tour and a lot of people saying they were just getting back into them after the 90's

The change from 1992 fear of the dark to 1995 xfactor was very big lol. In all,success,the album,the shows,the press. Everything
 
I remember TOTP Bruce sticking his face in the camera mimeing "F*** Off!"
Nicko was on another TV show shoving the cd in the lense.
A fun time, as all the first four reunion albums were. I'd left after FOTD so it was a welcome return.
