The Concert Thread

Next for me would be seeing James Dean Bradfield and Nicky Wire from the Manic Street Preachers in conversation with Keith Cameron, author of a new book on the band.

It is not exactly a concert, but James Dean Bradfield will be bringing his guitar, so I am sure he will be playing some songs live.

Saw Ghost headlining last night for the 1st time (in the same venue I saw them open for Maiden in 2017!).
Great production & performance!
Didn't like having my phone locked up in a case I carried around.
I'm used to using it for lyrics and setlist.
They should have played less new and more old songs.
Would love to have seen Ritual, From the Pinnacle to the Pit, & Con Clavi Con Dio.
Year Zero finale was crazy!

Drove the family 4 hours to Dallas to see Men At Work, Christopher Cross, and Toto!
Seen MAW & Cross before but this was 1st time to finally see Toto!
Had a ticket to see them few years ago in Corpus Christi, but they canceled.

All 3 bands were great!
MAW: Colin Hay played lead on Overkill. I fell in love with their keyboardist/sax/flute player!
C Cross: a fellow Texan who is a killer lead guitarist!
Toto: great set with a mix of rockers and ballads. Steve Lukather's reputation as a formidable lead guitarist is well deserved!

Saw Bruce Dickinson last night for the 1st time (as a solo artist)!
He was in great form and full of energy.
His band (especially Tanya the bassist and the lead guitarist on Stage Right) were fantastic!
Seeing a certain Maiden deep cut live for the 1st time was a thrill!
Accident of Birth is my favorite lp of his, but the best song of the night turned out to be Book of Thel (wish I had filmed it).
Resurrection Men was much better live than expected as well.

Saw Crazy Lixx (Confess, The Cruel Intentions) at Södra Teatern Kägelbanan in Stockholm last night.

Excellent smaller venue and a show with absolute spot on sound. Second time seeing Crazy Lixx this year after traveling all the way to Malmö in February, fourth time overall. Two thumbs up!

Have Patti Smith at the Chicago Theater coming in. Need to snag a Paul McCartney ticket soon as well for the Monday show here. If this is the last year of the current tour, I will have seen the second date of the tour in Seattle in 2022 and the second to last date of the tour in Chicago.

Saw Judas Priest and Alice Cooper play a double bill last night (last night of the tour).
Surprisingly, I enjoyed Alice more than Priest!
Reason is the vocals. It just wasn't Rob's night. He hit the high notes, but everything else just wasn't on point.
However Alice was perfect!
Musically both bands sounded great.
Ritchie is the man! Played Glenn's leads great!
Nita Strauss was on fire!

Indeed he did! It was a very entertaining evening, with lots of tales about how different songs were written, and a good amount of music played, including rarities and B-sides (Spectators of Suicide, Donkeys, Prologue to History...). The acoustic nature of the event highlighted the greatness of James Dean Bradfield's singing. Superb!

The first 200 people to arrive at the venue had the opportunity to get the book (included with the price of the ticket) signed by all three after the event and I was lucky to be one of them. I know it is a silly thing, but it was really nice to shake their hands. James joked with me about my T-shirt and I got the impression that they were really nice people (definitely nicer than other musical heroes I have met over the years).

Alice introduced last night

I would have loved to see them at the O2 Arena in London in July, but I was away at the time. I have never seen Judas Priest live with Rob and Alice Cooper always puts on a good show.

Next show for me, Dirkschneider (playing "Balls to the Wall", one of my favourite albums of all time, in its entirety) and Saxon (playing "Wheels of Steel" in its entirety) in London in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!
Fuck sake, just checked and that show is coming to Belfast but it's sold out, woest me!

I've never listened to the Manics but the way you gush over em makes me wanna check em out. Stay tuned, baby!

Sorry to hear that. Worth checking with the venue closer to the date, as some tickets might become available. I hope you'll be able to get one.

They are one of my favourite bands, as you can probably tell. Alternative rock with intelligent and thought-provoking lyrics. Not to everyone's taste though.

Uh oh, now if I don't like em I'll be forever branded a basic bitch:nana:

Anyway, last gig was local Irish Tradtronica outfit Huartan. Seen em a few times, always good. A combination of ancient melodies, Irish language, beats, dance, pagan vibes, deeply anti-colonial sentiments. Good stuff although this was the biggest venue I've seen them in and it was worse for it, a soulless cube of a place.

Next up is Electric 6 for the 5th or 6th time, whoo hoo!
