This labour Government hasn`t helped itself recently, Rayner had to go, Mandelson should have never been there. Starmer under pressure and looking inept , will he see out what is looking like just a single Labour term .

Thing is, you look at the current alternatives. The Conservatives are still on their populist leaning track which lost them the support of a chunk of the electorate who like the old school party wirh it's economic focus. Labour has definitely lost a lot of its traditional support, but then that has been happening for a long time seeing as nobody sees themselves as workers any more.

I suspect getting rid of Rayner has been mooted for a long time seeing as she's left wing. The stamp duty affair isn't as serious as some of the financial dodgy dealing and tax evasion plenty of other serving MPs have done and probably are still doing.

Starmer is heavily courting support in Tory territory these days. I wish he'd stop pandering to the small boats hysteria though, that's into far right stuff. Look at the stats and you'll find the vast majority of immigration is legal and consists of workers and students not refugees. I'm pretty sure laws on immigration are tightening up anyway.

I would agree the options are poor at the moment and that might be what saves Labour in the next election whoever might be leader.

I can`t however agree that the small boat issue and the cost to the taxpayer daily as we seem incapable of processing the people in question is anything other than a high priority. It has been a growing issue for years apart from the obvious Pandemic forced stop and 30k people so far this year if that figure is accurate is not sustainable surely.

Austerity policy is a surefire way to lose support to Farage. Starmer is essentially running government like a classic Tory. The current economical and political system isn't working for far too many ordinary people and that rightfully pisses people off. It's the same song and dance in many western countries, with people finding themselves increasingly worse off and out of hope.

Labour won by a landslide. Unless something catastrophic happens then they will still win the next GE. The right wing vote will be split between Tory and Reform. The local elections will be another story as typically it's the fringe protest parties who fare better in those.

Regardless of the greater debate that's 0.04%

Not 4%
Not 0.4%
Less than half of one tenth of 1%
And it`s still 30,000 + people and counting every year the way it`s going. Something needs doing with the issue to address the cost to the tax payer and the strain on the infrastructure of our country, which looks along way off happening.

And no i`m not a right wing loon or a racist just to be clear.

Highly unlikely that Starmer leads Labour into the next election, he is a walking disaster. Reports are that there is already a faction within the party plotting to install Andy Burnham in a safe seat and oust Starmer in favour of him.

They will probably wait until after next May's local elections, which will be catastrophic, to stick the knife in.

And what would that lead to? Completely different policy?

Burnham represents the 'soft left' wing of the party whereas Starmer is the centrist/Blairite wing. He has been critical of Starmer's government on account of welfare cuts and has indicated support for or at least consideration of wealth tax. Not a complete change but definitely a leftward turn.

It's being massively overblown. Public money is hurled at so many other things that people would not be happy about if attention was drawn to it. Massive overcharging for privatised public services, trimmings, bonuses, consultancy and PR around public services, money handed to slum landlords to prop up an overpriced housing market, insane charges from contractors for everything from basic medical equipment to road signage, the amount of money ploughed into social services to attempt to stop messed up people causing harm to themselves and their children, which often ends up actually supporting a continuation of their circumstances rather than helping anyone long term. Hotels and hostels are frequently filled with homeless people who return to rough sleeping as soon as that runs out because they have issues other than simply being homeless.

Choose any one of those things and the bill will run into millions if not billions.

The strain on infrastructure in this country is down to PFI contracts and over a decade of Tory austerity. Not boat people.
