Time for my review:
The band was on fucking fire. They all had a ton of fun.
Janick was dancing and prancing, nothing new there. Steve was doing his typical machine gun playing and shouting lyrics at fans.
Dave was all smiles and played a lot with Adrian and Janick, and had so much fun playing the solos.
Fucking hell, Adrian had a ton of fun and kept making jokes to the audience.
Simon is a fucking beast! Listen to the "rock n roll" endings for songs like Iron Maiden, he went crazy. I'll have to listen to some videos but I could swear he used double bass pedals for those parts.
Bruce was great for the most part as well. Aces High was surprisingly passable!
Honestly, for 80% of the show I didn't really think about the drums in any capacity. Of course I missed Nicko, but while you're in the middle of things, there's no time to pick apart a few drum grooves or fills here and there. I really liked his bass drum playing. Man, does he hit hard!
The ground screens/walls surrounding the stage and changing with each song were a phenomenal addition. The scale of the stage was amazing as well.
The negatives:
The middle part of SSOASS almost fell apart. Simon had trouble keeping the rhythm there and Adrian was trying to rush while Steve was dragging. Gonna watch out for videos, that was super rough lol
There was a hilarious moment where Adrian played the wrong chord during the heavily delayed crunch part in the middle of SSOASS and almost cringed himself out of existence.
I really like the screens, they work great for the most part. Though the visuals themselves seem pretty low quality for many of them. Often feels like watching a PS3 era game instead of something suitable for 2025. Many parts worked well, but many others felt like watching a screensaver looping over and over. Good first execution, but I'd like some more resources put into those in the future.
Gonna catch some flak for this, but having Rime and SSOASS in the same set, relatively close to one another shows some serious pacing issues. Two songs with quiet middle sections that both go on for multiple minutes. It doesn't help that I'm not the biggest fan of Rime in the first place. Was kinda cool to finally have heard it live, but honestly? I would've taken a dozen other songs over it in a heartbeat.
Lastly, my biggest complaint is something out of the band's control. Right up until the intro of Murders everything was fine, but then suddenly a handful of drunk and aggressive assholes showed up and kept shoving everyone and eveything. I was seriously pissed for the first couple of songs (fitting for Wrathchild!) and had to pay attention not to get hurt by random elbows or something. Every now and then they had to be reined in, but for the most part I could ignore them. Funnily enough I remembered them from the Cologne concert in 2022, where they were much more bearable. It doesn't help that one of the assholes was either jumping and bumping into people all the time or was on his phone sending selfies to his girlfriend or something. No middle ground with him.
From what I saw around me a lot of folks were annoyed with those douchebags, but you can't do anything about that unfortunately.
So, all in all: I would've preferred a setlist not focusing on the the 80s albums + FOTD, but I still had a ton of fun. Also, Avatar was a lot of fun and of the best openers for Maiden that I've seen so far.
