Italy and Bulgaria are both 1-0 up. And Iceland lead Czech Republic by 1-0! The Icelandic miracle continues.

Edit: 1-1 in Italy. And Croatian fans are throwing flares onto the pitch.

More flares from the Croatian fans. Points deduction please :D

... and the Italians send in the police. I predict our away game against Croatia in March will be played in an empty stadium.

Carrick and Blind both out injured during this break... Rojo, Jones, Evans still injured. Only McNair, Smalling and Blackett available when it comes to CB's and only Fletcher when it comes to DM's... Fucking hell. I heard that at least Rafael will be back.

Volkan is an absolute douchebag who shouldn't be anywhere near the national team*. But that doesn't justify the actions of the fans. It's not a surprise that this happened, given the extreme tension in Turkish football.

Volkan is one of the two captains of Fenerbahçe and one of the three most hated footballers in Turkish League along with his fellow co-captain Emre Belözoğlu and Felipe Melo of Galatasaray. Volkan has been playing for Fenerbahçe for 12 years and his career features a lot of unsportsmanlike incidents, almost entirely in Galatasaray matches. He once controlled the ball with his ass (he was all by himself so it was pure provocation) in a game at Gala's stadium, then proceeded to hold his testicles right in front of the fans. He tried to beat up a Gala player on the pitch that same year. In almost all Gala-Fener derbies a scuffle breaks out due to his actions. He recently jumped over Felipe Melo in celebration after he missed a penalty. He's also a bit notorious for being too aggressive off the field, threatening sports journalists and calling Felipe Melo "a dog who should be poisoned".

He's nowhere near the controversial figure Emre Belözoğlu, who actually captains the national team, is, though. Emre came out of Gala's youth system, swore that if he'd ever return to Turkey that it'd be Galatasaray, then proceeded to sign with Fenerbahçe. In one of his first matches against Gala, he harshly tackled Milan Baros of Gala, causing him to break his leg. He most notoriously called then Trabzonspor player Didier Zokora a "fucking n*****". A racist and a violent person in general. Emre receives an even harsher reception from Gala fans in international games but I've never seen him walk off the field.
