We've had this topic before plenty of times, but with the anticipation for a new Maiden tour, I feel like the best way for board members to get to know each other is to start talking about how we rate the Maiden albums. Feel free to post your lists, but also don't be shy to tell us why you rank the albums this way! And when you're done, why not give us your top ten Maiden songs and let us know what your favourite non-Maiden bands are?

My list is as follows:

But just so you know - I love them all, I don't think of any of them as "bad" albums by any stretch.

80's and reunion albums, much of a muchness in order.

In descending order the other 4 are:

The X Factor,
No Prayer - Fear of the Dark, much of a muchness, Fear has higher highs, No Prayer less peaks and troughs
Virtual XI the worst album
 
I, too, am a Total Catalogue Enjoyer, so here's my rough ranking.

A few quick comments:
  • Powerslave is my favourite album of all time (any genre). It's been in that spot for at least a decade.
  • Most fans dismss the Blaze Bayley era, but I'm in the minority who considers TXF as one of the band's greatest albums. The dark, brooding atmosphere is unique, but it works.
  • I grew up listening to progressive rock first (Yes, King Crimson), and started listening to metal later on. I like TFF than most Maiden fans seem to, probably because of its heavy prog influences.
  • I'm not trying to be controversial by ranking TNOTB so low. I've never liked "Run to the Hills". The revelation that "Hallowed be thy Name" was plagiarized hurts. And there's too much filler.
  • A lot of fans love AMOLAD, but I think it's overrated. There's a lot of good material, but I find there's too much unnecessary padding and repetition.
  • NPFTD is the only album that (in my opinion) is more bad than good. I consider it the band's weakest album by a good margin.

2-6. NOTB to Seventh Son in random order.
7. Brave New World

No Prayer, Fear of the Dark and Virtual XI at the bottom, but there isn't really a bad Maiden album.

I think Virtual XI is their only album that's actually bad overall, though Iron Maiden, Fear Of The Dark, and The X Factor are all pretty mediocre, IMO.

Top 5 have not changed since 2006 and I doubt the bottom 5 would change either (unless they release a new album and it is really weak!).
 
This is always tough to do as I love all of these albums as well.
