Ancient Mariner
Well guys, we've reached the final of this poll. Every studio album is presented with a winning song. Now these different eras are fighting the last battle, to decide which is the most popular Maiden song on this forum, judged on its solo(s).

You may cast 1 or 2 votes on the song(s) which contain(s) your favourite guitar solo(s).

I'd like to stress the following:
Please only focus on the solos, and do not think "the lyrics following this solo are so brilliant, I got to vote for this track", or "these two are my favourite tracks of these 14 (not necessarily because of the solos) so I gotta vote for it".

What may help is to only play the parts this poll is about. I decided to provide YouTube links so that you guys can skip to the moments in question (I assume you will find these moments yourselves).

In case there are doubts, it doesn't hurt to check them out again, especially now these songs have different opponents. I'm surely going to do this before voting, since I have about 4 or 5 candidates in mind.

Last but not least: Thanks a lot in advance for your contribution!  :ok:

Here we go:

1. Phantom Of The Opera
2. Prodigal Son
3. The Number Of The Beast
4. The Trooper
5. Powerslave
6. Stranger In A Strange Land
7. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
8. Mother Russia
9. Afraid To Shoot Strangers
10. Sign Of The Cross
11. The Clansman
12. Blood Brothers
13. Paschendale
14. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns

So if FoI was on here (like it should be) the choice would be a lot easier: FoI and Paschendale.
But without it, I have to choose between SiaSL and PotO. Which is near impossible.

I'll just wait to see what everyone else votes maybe...

FoI?  Please write more comprehensibly...

Anyway, I'll have to listen to all the solos before I decide.  I also still need to listen to Killers and reply to your question in the "worst album" thread Foro. :)

I'll pick one from the old, old days and one more recent.

I think out of the ones we have to choose from here, the choices from the 90s aren't really up to the best. I think Janick's greatest solos are all more recent, like those on BNW (the album) and a few on AMOLAD. Adrian was missed on the first few albums after he left - I think the teamwork between Dave and Janick needed time to settle.

Also,if I were allowed to choose 5 songs, the majority of them would have solos by H in them. However, when I am only allowed to choose two, these will actually be without contributions from H (at least the studio versions).

The first choice originally featured Dennis Stratton. Still, it's the two solos by Dave that really shine, they are among his finest. Phantom of the Opera it is.

The second one was very tough, because both Powerslave, SIASL and Seventh Son have great H solos and two of them contain more vintage Dave. Still, my second choice will be Blood Brothers. It is not because the song itself is one of my favourite songs (it is, but so are the others) - but the solos in Blood Brothers serve to enhance the emotions that the rest of the song build up. This symbiosis between the solos and the rest is there in a bigger extent in this song, I think.

Honourable mention to Powerslave, SIASL, Seventh Son and Paschendale.

Exactly the same as Eddie's Wingman. Phantom and Blood Brothers. Janicks solo in Blood Brothers is as good as it gets.

I went for the following slow solos this time:

Dave's slow solo in Powerslave gets me every time I hear it. Live it's a thrilling treat, but on the studio version as well. Later two more spellbinding solos follow.

In Prodigal Son we hear some excellent touch by the (still young) guitar players. Love the feeling in those solos. Very melodic as well.

The Clansman contains my favourite Gers solo from these songs.

@Invaders: I'm curious for your take on Killers:)

It's a really hard choice between some of those.  Most of those songs have at least one fantastic solo, but I decided to consider all of the solos instead of focusing on a single solo.

The hardest choice was between these:
Stranger in a Strange Land
Blood Brothers
Paschendale
Brighter than a Thousand Suns

with these solos coming close behind:
Phantom of the Opera
The Trooper
The Number of the Beast

Dave's first solo in Phantom is fantastic, I love how the solos in The Trooper fit the speed and energy of the song, and I just happen to like the Beast solos very much.  But I react emotionally more to the first four solos.  In the end I went for Stranger because it is my favourite slow solo and shows exactly what Adrian's playing is about, and Paschendale because, well... to be honest I can't explain it properly in English. :(  The whole imagery and emotion of the solos and stuff, but I really can't properly translate what I'm thinking.

SIASL.

Considered Phantom, Number, Powerslave, ATSS, Blood Brothers and Paschendale as well. They (along with SIASL) are the best of this group.

That's right, I didn't vote for Paschendale. H forgive me.

Stranger in a Strange Land and Blood Brothers

Following Foro's strict instruction I didnt vote for Paschendale (as this is my favourite song) but went for the thing of beauty that is H's solo on Stranger and Blood Brother's is (in my most humble of opinions) Janick's best contribution ever. When I first heard the solo I thought it must have been H's but hats off to Jan, it's amazing.

edit: damn just noticed The Trooper and that again is one of H's other notable solos. However I'll stand by my choice.....

Looks like we're going to have a clear winner, unless something will change the next 4 days.

And SIASL only won from CSIT with one vote difference!
