57 is not typically what I like, but I actually found it quite interesting.
58 is more my style, but... nah, for a wankfest, it's really good, I gotta go 58

59 has nice feel, both the composition and the playing, but lacks a signature melody or riff
60 might be Satch's signature song, but he has others I like better. Still, Satch.

59 might be the best song that I hadn't heard before this all started. Very striking melody, very moving and deep guitar playing and production.
From high piercing notes to low mysterious ones. Hits me straight in the heart. :notworthy:

58 is stock and pure wankery, but 57 failed to leave any impression on me at all.

59 has a great mood and haunting melodies, sounds like it would work really well as part of a film score. But, um, Satch.

There's more Satch in this game. But not every song of his is the same. Let's not only vote because it's Satch. The track itself should impress you more than the one with the great mood and haunting melodies.

Yet another round that proves mellow songs don't stand a chance in their matchups in this game.

Btw, I just realized that Steve Hackett was 59 and not 60. I meant to vote for him.

It does impress me more than 59. Just because I'm voting for Satch does not mean I'm voting blindly. I prefer Satch Boogie. It's one of my favorite upbeat Satriani songs, despite being quite overplayed. Hold on, I'll be back in three hours with a 10 page dissertation that proves my personal preference for Satch Boogie.

Will remember that Flash!

Some insight could enlighten me, because I don't have a single clue what people find great let alone good about it. To me it sounds like background music, the kind that you hear behind a compilation of sport fragments, or bloopers or something. Maybe he invented that kind of stuff, but it's still background music to me, without the slightest form of a hook, or anything else memorable. The soloing isn't bad good, but he plays over dull music (imo!).

Mahavishnu Orch.: Pretty laid back, but very pleasant to listen to. Interesting, not boring. Nice; I liked it.
Fire & Fury: Yeh, pretty wanky. It's sort of like Sepultura (the heavy rhythm bits), accept this guy can actually play the guitar.
Vote goes with Firewind (#58).
Sierra Quemada: Nice guitar work; lovely, flowing, atmospheric, simple. I enjoyed listening to that.
Satch Boogie: The guy can play, but this is everything I hate about Joe Satriani; cheesy, smug, wanky (in a crap way), squealing, squawking...
Vote goes with Hackett (#59).

Yeh, how about we vote for someone else because it's Satch! :p

'Satch Boogie' is one of his worst songs in my book.
Will remember that Flash!
You'd better, Foro...

Surfing with the Alien, the album, holds very tightly to the guitar-driven rock format. There are shades of metal, hard rock, and blues in the primary composition of most songs on the album. Satch Boogie, placed perfectly in the middle of the album, kicks off like a big band-era jazz tune. Imagine the intro as a full horn section, but played on guitar. The boogie-blues solo section that follows allows Satriani to open up and jam some blues, but he also incorporates some odd tonalities. The tapping section during the bridge changes the pace and sound of the song by using pitch axis theory - a technique Satriani uses often, but is on best display here. Overall, it's a fun tune with some fancy fretwork and a unique sound when compared to the rest of the album.

Great take Knick.
More of this please.
