2 and 3.

Let's be honest, Genghis Khan is good, but it has nowhere near as much energy and appeal as the Pulp Fiction theme. It is a little disjointed at times.

Ever notice how Killers Eddie's shirt sleeve kind of looks like Darth Vader's mask from behind?

2 and 4.

Genghis Khan is signature Maiden. Sublime instrumental with an excellent last one and a half minute. That bass line, those different riffs by Dave and Adrian and on top of that that cool lead by Adrian. This groove sounds like a preview of Hallowed Be Thy Name. Clive is really shining on this. Probably my favourite ending of all Maiden songs, and by far my favourite song from Killers.

Steve Harris in the interview with John Stix, made in 1983

Interviewer John Stix: "Genghis Khan is the second instrumental on Killers. The sharp break in the B section is like shifting gears without a clutch."

Steve: "That freaked out our producer as well. It was sort of a change at right angles. We really liked that element of surprise. This was another song where there could have been a vocal melody on top, but it felt good as an instrumental. A vocal would have cluttered it up. Originally it was written to depict the feeling and sound of Genghis Khan's army going to battle".

John Stix: "There are no solos"

Steve: "It wasn't a conscious thing, but it worked out that way. It felt better not to have any guitar solos on this track."

Whilst I enjoy the Maiden instrumentals I wouldn't deem any of them to be the best instrumentals out there, there are many many others that I enjoy more. For Ghengis, I enjoy the second half more, but the first half there is far too much emphasis on speed for my liking.

Genghis Khan's second half is very good, the first not so much, could be shorter, but I like the quick transition.

I voted for #2, as there are very few if any instrumentals that could beat it -- I could see it winning this whole thing. #1 is good, but ... more cowbell!

Tough choice between 3 and 4. It's hard for me to disassociate the movie from the theme song -- would I like the song as much if I didn't have such a positive view toward the movie? I'm overthinking it. Screw it, I like Misrlou better than Genghis Khan, which is still very good.

Luckily I heard the song before I saw the movie, so I think it holds up on its own. I can't think of a more infectious theme.

The Dick Dale track is very infectious indeed, but for me it can't beat the intensity and power of its challenging opponent. Besides its awesome groove, rhythm (very rewarding!), melodies and element of surprise, Genghis Khan has indeed emphasis on speed as well. We also hear that in Phantom of the Opera (couplets). We might forget that when we listen to recent slooooowwwer live versions but I really like that typical Clive drum pattern. He also did that during the solos in Total Eclipse. Very energetic stuff.

At the very least, it's cool to see Dick Dale putting up a close fight against Iron Maiden.

Newsflash from Group A: Thank you Mosh and Sixes for responding to my request.
Eliminated: Agalloch - The Isle of Summer & Michael Schenker Group - Into the Arena
To the Eight Finals: Running Wild - Final Gates & The Alan Parsons Project - Sirius

Uh, whats the track for #1 meant to be? I can't see the video there (says it was removed by the Youtube user).

Not that it matters too much I guess.
