1 vs 2 is really tough. I need some time to decide.

1 & 3. I liked both 3 & 4, but prefer the darkness in 3.

It's not tough at all: #2 is SOOOO much better than #1 it's ridiculous. #2 has mood, it has atmosphere, it has menace, it is memorable, it is awesome. #1 is like a lot of Dream Theater tracks: technically impressive at times (decent guitar solo starting in the fifth minute -- but still can't touch David Gilmour's guitar work on #2), but ultimately lame and forgettable. Plus, the keyboards on this song are incredibly annoying.

#3 vs. #4 is a little closer call for me., but [EDIT] on reflection, the choice is pretty clear. I prefer #4 for the opposite reason that Knick gives -- it is more fun, rowdy and loose, which works for me. Plus the solos are better. I'd listen to the Racer X multiple times. In fact, may download it now. Not so for Ex Nihilo.

3 switches nicely between dark and ominous and melancholy. The melody is not particularly catchy, but the atmosphere is superb.
I guess 4 is your typical metal chase song with interlude, but it is a very good one.
It's tough but 4, because I'm in a more metal mood this morning.

What a first round. One has too much of everything and the other makes me fall asleep. Can't vote.
The second round is quite the opposite. Ex Nihilo is good but Technical Difficulties is just another tier. Vote goes to 4.
