Sorry for the delay folks, I've been really busy with finals the past few days. Anyway, here's Thin Lizzy week. I'll open the next band's week on Sunday like normal, but of course discussion can continue here.

I know Steve likes to cite Wishbone Ash, but to me, Lizzy was the launch pad for Maiden's twin guitar harmonies.

Lizzy was an incredible band, and I rate their Live and Dangerous a lot higher than Live after Death, although Maiden is my favourite band. Lynott was not a great bass player, but a fantastic singer. Some of their songs are real masterpieces, among which Emerald (my fav'), Mexican Blood, Massacre. I clearly remember the night Lynott's death was annonced on the radio. I was really sad, because I was hoping they would reunite one day and that I would be able to see them live.
That said, those recent tours with a new singer are just a terrible shame. I don't know how Lynott's mother has approved such a move. I mean, Lizzy was Lynott. Apparently not legaly, as Downey must have owned part of the name, but this band touring without Lynott is like Sabbath without Iommi or Maiden without Harris : pure non sense.

I saw the current Thin Lizzy opening for Judas Priest last year. It was a worthy tribute I thought. The band was tight, the singer was good and charismatic, and the entire thing seemed like an honest tribute to Phil and Gary Moore, who had passed recently.

Although I agree with the sentiment behind Harrisdevot's post, after seeing the band I have to agree with Mosh. They sounded really good, made no pretensions about being anything other than what they were and bent over backwards to praise Phil at every opportunity.

Thanks for your remarks, but let's try another way of seeing things. Just imagine Steve dying in a near future : would you like someone to pick up his bass, and do a "honest tribute" to him ? I wouldn't. It just sounds like a robbery. There are many ways to dedicate a tribute to someone, and, with all due respect to your opinion, I think this was the worst. I know an older fan (I was only 17 when Phil died) and he was completley shocked.

If Dave and Nicko and Janick reunited ten years later with a singer and bassist that respected Steve's legacy and performed songs that they helped write and make famous, I would have no problem with that. To do otherwise would be to dismiss the legacy of what the remaining three contributed in the past 20 years or more. Steve is the leader, but Iron Maiden is a band.

If the replacement(s) are good, why not? I certainly wouldn't go see them if Geoff Tate replaced Bruce, for example.

The only bad thing about this post-Phil Thin Lizzy was the addition of douchebag sellout greedy bitch Vivian Campbell. I would certainly skip their concert if he was playing (I saw them with Sykes, Aldridge, Gorham and some random bass player).

Just for the record, Lizzy is one of my all-time favourite bands.
And I love Phil. Between his voice and his lyrics, he might be the best storyteller in rock.

Will be posting some musical highlights later.

(And Campbell=douche. Too bad, because his work with Dio was superb.)

I've heard albums Jailbreak and Johnny The Fox. Jailbreak is ok, but Johnny was even better. Emerald, Johnny and Massacre are the best songs from those two.

While I like all the discography of Thin Lizzy, I mostly love the early period of the group, with Eric Bell on guitar. Vagabonds of the Western World is my favourite album.

I like Lizzy's softer side almost as much as its heavy side, but since this is a Maiden forum, here are four Lizzy tracks a Maiden fan couldn't help but love (I'd add Massacre, but Im assuming you are all familiar with that):

Suicide (from Fighting)

Bad Reputation (from Bad Reputation)

Warriors (from Jailbreak)

Emerald (from Jailbreak)

I love Emerald. Maybe my favorite Lizzy tune. Bad Reputation has a cool groove. I like their softer side too. Whiskey in the Jar is a great song, there was another one they played at the concert I saw that I liked but I have no idea what it was called.
