The tour that never happened: Iron Maiden Live On Stage 1994

Iron Maiden supposedly planned a tour in early 1994. The Iron Maiden Commentary lists the following dates (http://www.ironmaidencommentary.com/?url=tour10_xfactor/dates10_xfactor&lang=eng&link=tours):

02 Feb 1994 Prague - Czech Republic
Date unknown, city unknown, 1994 - Hungary
Date unknown, city unknown, 1994 - Hungary
Date unknown, city unknown,1994 - Romania

The setlist would probably be based on the A Real Live One/Dead One setlist as both Doogie White and Blaze Bayley has stated that this was the basis for the auditions that happened in the autumn of 1993 (In a 2005 interview with Metal Rules, White said that he sang a total of 22 songs with IRON MAIDEN, including "Be Quick Or Be Dead", "From Here To Eternity", "Can I Play With Madness", "Iron Maiden" and "The Clairvoyant"). Since the recording of The X Factor had started in Jan 94 (Run to the Hills: "In January 1994, work began on writing the first album with Blaze as singer. Recorded at Steve's own ever-improving home studios (now christened Barnyard), the new album would take over a year to complete.") maybe the band could have a song or two ready for those shows. "It’s interesting to note that Doogie White remembers learning a 20-song Maiden set that included Can I Play With Madness, Run To The Hills and Be Quick Or Be Dead, songs that it is hard to imagine Blaze Bayley singing, while the latter recalls learning only 10 songs." (https://maidenrevelations.com/2019/01/25/maiden-history-the-blaze-era-part-1-1994-1996/) But the setlist would probably be very similar to the last Bruce show:

The Raising Hell 28 August 1993 setlist:

  1. "Be Quick or Be Dead"
  2. "The Trooper"
  3. "The Evil That Men Do"
  4. "The Clairvoyant"
  5. "Hallowed Be Thy Name"
  6. "Wrathchild"
  7. "Transylvania"
  8. "From Here to Eternity"
  9. "Fear of the Dark"
  10. "The Number of the Beast"
  11. "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter" "
  12. 2 Minutes to Midnight"
  13. "Afraid to Shoot Strangers"
  14. "Heaven Can Wait"
  15. "Sanctuary"
  16. "Run to the Hills"
  17. "Iron Maiden"
The tour was cancelled because of a motorcycle accident Blaze suffered (as stated on the IMC website). In an interview with Braveworld they wrote the following: "The musician did have a horrendous accident on his Triumph motorcycle, colliding head on with a car, which he blames on Eddie. 'The bike was mangled but the speedometer said 666 and the mileage I had done was 6,666,' said Blaze. 'I nearly lost my leg and it took me 18 months before I could walk without a limp. It was the curse of Eddie. I believe if you want to be in the world's greatest metal band you will pay, and horrible things happen,' he said."

Lawrence Paterson states the following:

Here's the relevant passage from "At the End of the Day" by Lawrence Paterson:

"Recording eventually dragged on for the remainder of 1994. Four introductory shows (like those that Bruce had played in Italy shortly after he had joined Iron Maiden in 1981) that had been planned for the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania in February 1994 were forced to be cancelled due to unforeseen delays."

Paterson then goes on to speak about Blaze's accident, but it appears from the context that the accident wasn't the reason and may have even happened after the cancellation.

I ran the Melody advert (dated to Jan 1994) trough Google translate, sorry for the rough translation (if anyone could work out a better translation that would be great): "in the photo you can still see Iron Maiden with the singer Bruce Dickinson, but on February 2nd the band will introduce his new members. Who it is, is at the moment when we are preparing the Melody. great secrets. She awarded Teck for her cooperation with Dickson two years ago. live album The Real Live one The Real Dead one, which was also released by EMI in our country. Maiden will come to us as part of a mini-European tour called Live on Stage. In his itinerary, Hungary and Romania are beyond the threshold. ucel tour is easy to introduce and the Maidna certificate costs 260 kc and is available at tiketpro and apron stores. The concert was organized by interconcerts. this is the agency that prepared Deep Purple so flawlessly. By the way, they would like to please us in black with Aerosmith, and at the end of the summer, Red Hot Chili Peppers will be holding their palace." The black bar states: "Well, the last time we heard that Iron Maide won't be coming in February, but we know a new singer - Blaze Bayley."

Does anyone have any more information on this? Is it total fiction, or was this planned?

Here's a good mystery that I'm going to further research for my third book, however, I can tell you this.

Blaze's accident took place in September/Early October 1994. So the "cancellation" of dates wasn't because of his accident.

What seems to have happened is that a promoter (more like swindler), trying to be "smart" announced those dates which got picked by loads of sites, but the band didn't intend to tour at all

Looks as if the tour was announced before Blaze was confirmed as the new singer. Do you know when it was announced?

Are you referring to websites? Because they pretty much didn't exist back in late 1994, at least for the general public.

Are you talking about the tour or Blaze Bayley as new singer? Blaze was announced as the singer just after Christmas 1993 in Sweden! Article dated 1993-12-30 announcing Blaze as the lead singer:
I have collected a bunch of press and magazine articles about Iron Maiden and I just went for the 94 folder to see what I had and the first one that I saw was the one dated on January 3, 1994. I also have an inside memo from EMI but is not dated so it does make sense that Sweden press announced it around Christmas as you said

I don't remember but I started to be a fan club member in that period and it's very possible that the fans knew about the new singer in the first issue of 94 with a signed photo and the mag.

It would have been interesting to have seen Blaze on a warmup tour before any new music was released. They relied pretty heavily on the albums he was on while he was in the band (which was the correct call IMO) but obviously they would not have had that luxury in 94. I assume in Maiden fashion it would have more or less been an extension of the Real Live tour. Would we have heard Blaze attempt songs like Where Eagles Dare?

I remember it was also on the TV program "Noisy Mothers", where the host Krusher jokingly accused Blaze of being "a little liar" as he had denied leaving Wolfsbane on one of the previous shows. I'm almost certain that was the first episode that was shown in the new year.
