The loudest gig I've ever been to

Must be the grindcrusher Uk tour in 1982 at the Manchester Academy.Band on were Bolthrower, Morbid Angel, Carcass and Napalm death. As I write this my ears are still whistling.Every time Shane Embury pummelled his bass strings, you could feel the floor vibrate right through your stomach and into your throat!

Slayer, Portsmouth Guildhall, on the Decade Of Aggression tour in 1991

They played the NEC the night after and must have crammed the same PA into the tiny Pompey venue! I saw loads of bands there over the years and not even Motorhead were that loud....

I haven't experienced anything really loud, but the loudest I've heard was Behemoth at Tuska Festival this year.  I happened to be in an outdoor toilet at the beginning of it and the whole thing suddenly started vibrating to the beat of the bass/drums.  Scary as hell.

I hope you had finished what you were doing before the vibrations started! Seriously though, it is a shock when a really loud band suddenly kicks off.As I mentioned before, the grindcrusher gig was really loud.I'd been to loads of gigs before and numerous ones since, but thats the only one where I actually felt physical discomfort.

Bolthrower, Morbid Angel, Carcass and Napalm Death in 1982? Do you not mean 1992? Whenever it was, I would have to admit that would have had anyone's t-shirt vibrate intensity. :D

Sorry Albie, my mistake.I have my grindcrusher tour t.shirt in front of me and it says 10th November 1989.

The best thing about this gig was apart from the volume, the sound was perfect, not muddy at all.Thats probably why it was so discomforting, and every band were on top form

For me, I think the loudest must've been Immortal this summer (they were warming up for Judas Priest). I was standing at the rear end of the standing area during most of their show (drinking beer, of course - it was a very warm day) and when I moved close to the front during Priest's show, the sound actually sounded lower even though I was 75 meters closer to the stage ...)
