The last Kennedy is dead

So he finally lost to the brain cancer. No pleasant way to go, one of my grandmothers died of the same. I find it impressive that Kennedy actually continued to work in the Senate and in politics for months after he started treatment. Rest in peace.

For those of you who follow US politics closer than me - are there any of "today's" Kennedy generation who have political aspirations at national/international level?

That comes as a bit of a shock. I can't say I know much about the man, but I understand he was beloved in Massachusetts.

Wow, I'm truly shocked.

However, there are still plenty of Kennedys, I wouldn't call Ted "the last."

Ted is the last Kennedy of the great generation of 'em.  Patrick and Joe III are just not the same quality of men that their sires were, though they may eventually live up to the legacy.

You mean they need to let a woman drown in their cars and cheat on their wives before they do? Oh, is it too soon?

I feel more sad than angry when reading that. Sad that there exist people that stupid and that these stupid people don't have anyone close to them that can tell them that their opinion is moronic and that they should keep it to themselves.

This wise man has a huge TV audience and his books are sellouts.
Oh well, at least he is not running for President.

Is it really that bad with political partisanship in the US that you literally wish your opponent dead?

I don't think that site is serious. Browse a bit and read comments.

However, if they're serious, i'd like them to meet true ruler of heavenly heights :

...and it ain't merciful.

Of course, that text is so over-the-top that one shouldn't rule out the possibility that some irony is involved, but ... and I certainly hope it is so.

Yes.

There was a protester at an Obama speech a couple of weeks ago, carrying a loaded gun and holding a sign that said, "It's time to water the tree of liberty." That sign refers to a quote from Thomas Jefferson: "From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants." (That's from memory, sorry if I got it wrong, but I think it's right.) In other words, the guy was advocating killing the president, and he had the gun to do it.

I don't recall it getting this bad before Obama. Sure, a few wackos wished harm to Bush - but most of us didn't. I hated Bush with all my heart, and I still never wished death upon him. But this sort of extreme hate is now becoming common among the right-wingers. It used to be just the fringe wingnuts, but now it's all over.

As to Kennedy: RIP. I really respected the guy. One of my favorite senators. Like I said on another forum: the Democratic Party just lost its conscience. Who's going to step up now?

Oh man, the world's oldest constitutional democracy sure deserves better. I remember being astonished you guys had only one civil war so far when I saw the trench wars of the 2000 elections... some right-winged Americans have a very odd idea of democracy.

The quote is, "The tree of liberty must from time to time be refreshed with the blood of patriots...and tyrants."
