UFO - Love to Love vs. Thin Lizzy - Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend
Love to Love is a great track, brilliant build up intro, soulful vocals, and Schenker master class, but it's not as good as Roisin Dubh Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell vs. Symphony X - Fallen
I gave Symphony X about half a listen this time, feelings were a bit similar to my original thoughts "Symphony X, is pretty decent, like a more interesting version of DT and with a real good singer, but I like a bit of rawness and groove in my metal." but I'd heard enough to know it wasn't in the league of Heaven and Hell, to be honest I was doing it a courtesy even pushing play, Heaven and Hell is probably a contender to win this thing, it's certainly the best Dio era Sabbath track. Heaven and Hell
Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger vs. Evanescence - My Immortal
I re-read my original post on Evanescence "Evanescence, this is like Heart for the MySpace generation, not bad for what it is, but not something I'd be in danger of playing of my own freewill." Darkthrone was so quiet, plus the grooveless drumming wasn't to my tastes, but there was some decent chord progressions there Transilvanian Hunger
Anthrax - Caught in a Mosh vs. AC/DC - Sin City
Caught in a Mosh is great, but the lyrics have always bugged me, what the fuck has a mosh got to do with the rest of the lyrics? Sin City the far better track Sin City
Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose vs. Arcturus - The Throne of Tragedy
Both of these tracks were listenable but wouldn't be anything I'd actively seek out, Cornell's voice the best thing about either track so takes the win Jesus Christ Pose
Mastodon - The Czar vs. Death - 1000 Eyes
Mastodon was pretty decent, good vibe at the start, when it kicked in it was a bit jammy but still good, shades of early Sabbath in both the jammy-ness and some of the vocals had a hint of Ozzy. This is what I thought about Death first time "Death track is pretty good, probably on the threshold of something I'd listen to, not a million miles away from Kreator for example, certainly more in my ball park than other tracks that I'm aware of like Pull the Plug. Only major gripe is on occassion the overboard double bass steals focus" I'm surprising myself with how consistent my second opinion is on all these tracks. Both these tracks fall under the "close but no cigar" category in terms of whether I'd be interested in checking out more of them, and it's a hard decision to pick one, but I'll go with Death as I've seen Mastodon live a couple of times and they were a bit shite both times. 1000 Eyes
