Holland's THE GATHERING have parted ways with bassist Hugo Prinsen Geerligs and have replaced him with Marjolein Kooijman.
"After a period of soul searching, Hugo came to the conclusion he wants to spend his time otherwise, taking on new challenges profession-wise and focus on his private life," the band said in a statement. "He and his wife just had a beautiful baby girl. This means Hugo will end the year with THE GATHERING and [will do] one last show which will be in 013 in Tilburg, Holland the 16th of November. Of course we wish him all good luck and happiness in the future!
"THE GATHERING went on a quest to find a suitable replacement for Hugo and luckily they did not have to search very far. They found a great replacement for Hugo in female bass player Marjolein Kooijman from Oss Holland, the place where most of the band come from and started their GATHERING career. Marjolein, a very nice person and a natural talent indeed, studies at the Dutch 'Rock Academy' at Tilburg. You will get a chance to meet her when THE GATHERING will tour around Europe after the release of [their new EP] 'Sleepy Buildings' end of January 2004."
THE GATHERING's new "semi-acoustic" live album, "Sleepy Buildings", is due on January 26 through Century Media Records. Recorded at two exclusive gigs held at the LUX movie theatre and venue in Nijmegen, Holland on August 21-22, the disc features selections from the group's entire career — from the classic debut "Always" to the commercial breakthough "Mandylion" to the trip-rock of "If_Then_Else". THE GATHERING will promote the album with a special semi-acoustic tour starting February 2004. More information will be made available soon.
Upcoming THE GATHERING shows:
Nov. 16 - 013 Jubilee Festival – Tilburg, NETH
