Cornfed Hick
Ancient Mariner
Excellent article in today's New York Times about the 2008 NBC Universal lot fire that destroyed a significant number of master tapes. It's a very long article, and tragic, but also a pretty good behind-the-scenes glimpse into one part of the major music label business, if you are interested in that sort of thing. I'm curious what the reaction to this story will be, as today's article might be the first time that some of these artists are learning that their master recordings are now forever lost.

It was the biggest disaster in the history of the music business — and almost nobody knew. This is the story of the 2008 Universal fire.
