Do not post problems about the forum here.  Post about certain problems you are having with software/hardware and see if anybody can help you out.

I am having problems configuring Microsoft Outlook with my hotmail account.  I don't know how to set up the server information:
Incoming mail server??? POP3, IMAP, HTTP etc.
Outgoing mail server??? SMPT :help:

I have searched high and low but there seems to be no answer, possibly due to hotmail accounts being so common and scummy :P Please help. :uhm:

My solution: Don't use Outlook. Honestly.

Have you tried <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=287424">this?</a>

EDIT: Are you using Office Outlook or Outlook Express? - not sure it makes a difference in the configuration, but I have an AOL Account that works OK on Office Outlook but not on Outlook Express (where no outgoing mail worked at all).

Hotmail does not offer POP3 acces for free, as NA already said, unike Gmail for ex. If however you wish to pay to use POP3 to dl your e-mail to your PC, than Hotmail is obliged to issue you some instructions on how to setup your e-mail program (I recomend Thunderbird, the Mozilla alternative to Outlook :P)

I'm trying to configure my account with Thunderbid now, going through the instructions on this website.  They tell me that In need webmail installed but when I try to download it, nothing happens.

I am a n00b, help me out of here!

Ok, but you didn't answer my question: did you pay to use POP3 acces from Hotmail or do you have just a free account? If you do have just a free account, there's no chance in hell you'll be able to use your T-Bird with that. Anyway, who needs Hotmail when you've got Gmail with its 2GB+ free space...

I honestly don't know how you CAN have a problem, if you have a hotmail account and are using outlook, there should be no problem since they are both by microsoft. The server they are asking for might just be your internet service provider and not much else. I had no problem setting my mom up. I'll take a look on how I did that and get back to you as soon as I can.

A free account.
I thought that using Thunderbird was a sneaky way to bypass this but I must be mistaken.

Onhell's comment intrigues me now though... did your "mom" pay for her account?

There's absolutely no way to go through that kind of thing... you either pay for your hotmail account (which would just be dumb if you ask me) or you could ask me to give you a gmail invite and get 2GB+ of freespace + POP3 acces. :D

2734.409905 megabytes (and counting)  :D

That's what people who don't have tickets to see Maiden count.

I already have a gmail account, I just don't want the hassle of switching everything to a new e-mail address.  I'll just stick with my crappy hotmail account ;)

Nope, she has a standard free 250MB hotmail account. Since I have a Mac I use Entourage for mine and again... nothing more than saying what is your e-mail address and it takes care of it...

You think you have problems? I had a major computer crash last night. Took me all day today to fix it, and still not everything is right: the sound on my computer is now broken. Which means I can't listen to any of the 15000+ tracks in my legendary music collection. AAAAAARRRRGGH!

EDIT: It took 10 hours and required working until an ungodly hour (it's 3:13 AM as I post this). But my sound is fixed, and I'm joyfully listening to Led Zeppelin. H be praised!

Speaking of Macs, what do you think... is it worth switching to a Mac if I've been a PC user all my life? I don't have the money to buy a Mac now, but hopefully, i'll raise enough and when my pcs completely obsolete, I would like to see how a Mac feels.

PS- Macs in Romania are as often as water in the Sahara...

No. I really, really, really can't see why everybody is so crazy about Macs. They may have a few advantages for office work and publications, yes, but for leisure use I really wouldn't recommend them.

I'd never own a Mac for gaming.  You almost need a PC for that.  But if it comes to things like graphic design, video editing, presentations, the Mac is powered specifically for it.

It depends what do you do for "leisure". However I agree with Perun, at the end of the day there is more software, more CHEAPER software for PC's than Macs. And again it depends what you want to do. As Perun pointed out, Macs are great for video editing, publications even recording music. However aside from "iLife" their bundled package of amateur software for those purposes, most of their software is geared towards proffesionals and it is ridiculously expensive.

As for the leisure comment, if you absolutely LOVE computer games don't get a Mac. If you could care less, get a Mac.

P.S Macs run Windows now as well, they dual boot so now even the "they don't have games" is no excuse not to get a mac. :)

I think that you'll still have to buy the Windows operating system if you want to upload it to the Mac or else you'll have to do some naughty illegal downloading :P
