The 21st Century Metal Video Topic (non Iron Maiden)

Let's post new metal clips in this topic. Live vids, official video clips, go ahead!  :)
Old ones are not forbidden of course, but links to new ones might help to get an idea of new music to discover, or to promote.

The first one I post is:

band: Scar Symmetry
country: Sweden
song: The Illusionist (video clip, 2006)

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you there Albie. I've seen both Onslaught and Sabbat, and these guys are the best reformed band, although Onslaught put on a great show.

Also, why not plug my favourite Irish band again, Mass Extinction. For tight thrash, look no further!

I prefer the original...few people can match lungs with Dio. :D

If you thought Atheist was hard to make sense of...
Emperor - Empty [Prometheus - The Discipline Of Fire And Demise, 2001]:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czdeHCmzt10

Definitely one of the most bizarre videos I've ever seen.

Indeed, pretty "full" song as well. I prefer the older Emperor, esp the track "I am The Black Wizards".

Speaking of Amon Amarth, do you know Mithotyn? They don't exist anymore, had three albums out. Check out this myspace-site to get an idea and this tribute video, if you like. I bet this band was inspiring for bands like Amon Amarth. What I've always liked about Mithotyn was their nice guitar melodies! http://www.myspace.com/mithotyn + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTHbGDuUWic .

3 Inches of Blood is one of my favourite new bands.  This song is from their second album, but first "real" album (the first was half demo, half bside if that makes any sense).  They're from Vancouver and generally play some sort of faster speed metal.

Hmmm...Scar Symmetry seem to sum up, to me, just what is wrong with the term 'melodic death metal'.  I'm surprised at the people in the comments box claiming them to be so much better than the 'NWOAHM' (a.k.a. metalcore) - there's really not much difference between the two.

I've been brooding a while to answer this, but the "American and European metal" suits better, I guess.

@Albie, this dude of Biomechanical has some vocals! Almost Pantera goes Halford!
He most certainly can scream with the best of them. John K's a Greek guy based in London and by all accounts is Biomechanical and was (until very recently) the only member left. The others quit - very acrimoniously. Info from from their official MySpace page.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to provide links to all of Wintersun's debut album, since there are high quality uploads of each song.  All are song only, except for the first one, which is an official video.

I really like this album for several reasons.  The first is that it's a truly progressive album, in terms of the track lengths...each one is longer than the last.  It also has a lot more light and shade than the average melodic/power metal, and a good deal of kick when its required.  Jari Maenpaa (ex-Ensiferum) did EVERYTHING on this album, except for the drums.  Watch the first video...that's him playing the Telecaster.  Yes, a TELECASTER.  How the FUCK you get that kind of tone with a Telecaster, I don't know (and he managed to get a nearly identical tone live, before switching to a much more sensible Steve Vai signature Ibanez).  The tone may not be that special, but it's the fact that he got it on a telecaster that amazes me.

Oh, and the solos rock.  Plenty of sweep picking, yet nothing is out of place.  The solo of Winter Madness is instantly memorable...I can recall it perfectly after hearing it only a few times (a la 'Seventh Son').

Ignore the badly translated lyrics, as well. ;)

01. Beyond The Dark Sun
02. Winter Madness
03. Sleeping Stars
04. Battle Against Time
05. Death And The Healing
06. Starchild
07. Beautiful Death
08. Sadness And Hate
End of Sadness and Hate (kind of an epilogue to the whole thing...it's just the outro of Sleeping Stars again, yet still quite pensive)

Enjoy!

I don't have the time to listen to all the tracks, but "Beyond The Sun" sounds pretty good to me. I will give the rest a listen later today.

Not an official video, this one, but one I find very interesting.

A combination of Resident Evil 4 footage and Dark Tranquillity: Hours Passed In Exile

Not only is the footage gorgeous (Resi 4 is a VERY pretty game), but the music and the footage match up well, thanks to the efforts of the editor.  I particularly like the match between the punctual stops on the line 'We-are-different' and the change in shots.  Great song, too!

While I'm not a big fan of their music in general (although the drummer is amazing), I'm really starting to like Mastodon's Pendulous Skin from their Blood Mountain album, released last year. It's quite different from the rest of their stuff, with a haunting, at times almost ambient mood. The rest of the record isn't as good though.

Additionally, allow me to briefly ignore the 21th century rule to point out Corrosion of Conformity, who are rapidly becoming a favourite of mine. I only have one album of theirs, Wiseblood from 1996, an excellent record combining elements of early Sabbath-like doom, thrash and southern rock. Apparently they started out as more straight-forward hardcore and thrash and started incorporating the other stuff later. Two tracks from Wiseblood (perhaps not entirely representative but they're what I found): Drowning in a Daydream and Redemption City.

I was positive I had posted this before... guess not, or I did in another thread... Anyway here it is (maybe again). ONe of my favorite "new" bands. Hear anything familiar? :)

I don't really like the singer's voice (but judging from experience, that's something you get used to), but the instrumentals were really excellent. Reminded me of Maiden at pretty much every occasion. Here's a band I'm going to check out.

The video is tasteless, but then, it comes from a tasteless film, so that's hardly surprising.

Did you check out their others? Their videos are not that great, but the songs are very good. Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, Seize the Day and MIA are from their last cd The City of Evil, GOOOD stuff.
