Stupid Religious People!

Some classmates and I decided to make a school film, describing the life of a Greek 12th grade student. He's a very pessimistic character that's being pressured by his mom to become a doctor. But that's no what he wants. Also this year he's going to a new school where he meats Nick, the school's "freak"( because he listens to metal" ) and seeing that they have a lot in common they become friends. So now he's the second "freak" the school has. The kid's dream is to make a band. His mother won't accept it. So, the problems he has with some classmates that consider him a freak, the problems with his theology teacher ( that thinks his mission is to "protect" students from turning to black magic and reading the "satanic Harry Potter and of course metal!), his mom's pressure all lead him to being extremely pessimistic.

Nick though is very optimistic ( and heretical according to the theology teacher ) and tries to help the kid understand that life is good and worth fighting for. He also helps the kid make a band ( without his mother knowing it ). But one day after a fight between the kid and some of his classmates, he ends up with being punished by the school's headmaster. When he returns home his mother acts as if she doesn't care about her son, but for what others will say about his rudeness to the headmaster. Thinking that the world doesn't care for him he tries to comit suicide. Now, by some strange coincidense Nick visits him to his house, and prevents the massacre. He tells the kid that in your life you have to know what yoy want and do it no matter what difficulties there may be. So the kid quits school, makes his mother angry. Six years later he becomes a rock star.

So now you know what the film is about. I used Maiden songs for the film (and some Bruce stuff). Now when we showed the movie to the whole school, 2 teachers extremely religious found it was satanic! Why? Because as they said, metal is satanic, the story's moral is to leave your home and become a rock star, do whatever you want, and be rude to your parents! God how stupid can someone be! I suppose that the "life's beautiful" theme is satanic too, for that's what the film is all about and that when you want something heart and soul, then you can do it no matter what difficulties.

Jesus! :: I'm now the school's heretic according to them! I actually kinda like it. /tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":P\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" /] Now tell me your opinions on the matter, and whether you've had such an experience. Up the Irons!! Sorry for any mispelling. /happy.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"^_^\" border=\"0\" alt=\"happy.gif\" /]

Your next movie should be about no matter where you go there will always be stupid religious people there who automaticaly think something is evil just because it has something they don't like in it. I experience this everyday because my dad is a preacher or minister or something. Whenever I want something that has to do with music my dad always throws a fit because "What would the people at church think if I let my son get this?" Fuck the people at church. I remember when I got my first CD like a year and a half ago, and he yelled at my mom because it was "bad." If he actually LISTENED to it there wasn't ANYTHING that ANYONE would find "bad," EXCEPT a religious person who jugdes things just by their holier-than-thou standards. Same thing with my sister. She dosen't want to make him mad so she always agrees with him no matter what and goes to church with him no matter what. I remeber when I got my first rock shirt, an Ozzy one, and my dad was like "Crystal,(my sister's name,) would you buy an Ozzy shirt?"
Then my sister said in a really lazy voice "No I would not buy an Ozzy shirt." "And why not?" "Because people would judge me by it." Guess what, I DON'T CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF ME.

Well, that's all.

Maybe if you cared enough to learn about it, you could understand it, and fight the prejudices adequately.

As for your Satanic movie, all you need to do is ask them to support their positions with facts. When their heads explode, you win.

That's what I'll do but since we're on a 2 week holiday, it won't be until the 26th of April that I'll have the chance to do it. Another idea a friend gave me, is to put stickers on the cd's we're going to give with a warning that goes pretty much like this: "This film has metal music in it and for this reason it has been considered satanic, watch at your own risk". Being 30 IS old!
That has to contest with the dumbest things I've ever read on this board (it isn't *the* dumbest, and it actually isn't even the dumbest thing I've read here today, but it still ranks very high). Being 30 is NOT old. I don't even want to know where you got that ridiculous idea from. Somebody starts being old when (s)he is past his/her prime. Which may be when they are marching towards their 60s, and even then, it doesn't have to be. My father is 59, and I would not classify him as 'old', merely middle-aged (he's become a bit calmer).

And apart from that, with a life expectancy of 76, how could you remotely classify someone who has not even reached half that age as 'old'?

Despite the vastness of the scriptures, one will never stumble upon so much as a mere praise to the greatest "gift of God" to man: logic. Faith begins where logic ends. Trying to reason with hardcore religious people on subjects as plain as "heavy metal is not Satan's music" is futile. Just let them be and avoid them.

You (all of you) shouldn't just lump all religious people together; it's like saying "Stupid black people!" or "Stupid Jews!" because one black or one Jew offended you.
You need to distinguish between genuine religious people (who follow the overall message of faith, hope, and charity) and the so-called "fundamentalists" (I have problems with ths term, but it works for now) who think that it's ok to use the Bible to push a political agenda.

In other words, this is a pretty meaningless thread.

When I said stupid religious people I didn't mean every religious person. I meant those "fundamndalists" you mention. And unfortunately there are very few genuine religious people. For religion is NOT going to the church, cross oneself and after the sermon gossip the neighbour's clothing. :: At least that happens in the Greek-Orthodox church( and I don't think it's all that different anywhere else ).
