I recently bought The String Tribute to Avenged Sevenfold containing all the songs, but one from their City of Evil CD. I originally got it because it contained my favorite song M.I.A, but upon listening they butchered it down to 4 minutes and don't even do the Maiden-like solo. However the other songs, specially Beast and the Harlot are nothing short of brilliant.
The reason I got it is because of my love for Apocalyptica and the fusion of "classical" with "metal" whether it is in neo-classical South American Power Metal or string tributes like this one. I also own the string tribute to Tool, but I don't like that one too much, because the violin used is very whiny, while the one on Avenged's is much smoother. I remember seeing a string tribute to Maiden at one point and I'm sure there are countless others for more bands.
What do you guys make of this string of tributes (aren't I clever with that play on words
) and do you own any?
