Some people can't tell the difference.

The "... shreds" videos can be quite cleverly put together - as this one is, in terms of accurate timing especially - but I don't know where the humour is supposed to be. There are always loads of comments saying how hilarious it all is, but I just look at it and think "well, he's obviously not playing that", and that's it.

I don't get it.

Maybe the humour is lost on me because I'm not a guitarist, or because I felt the whole video was just annoying. I was waiting for something to happen, but all the time, Vai just did something on his guitar that was about as tolerable as that mosquito in your bedroom on a summer night and people cheered for no reason. Anybody care to enlight a non-musician here?

I've seen that before. Still don't know what to think.

The basic fact to take on board, as I'm sure you've realised, is that the audio track that you hear is not coming from Steve Vai. For some reason, large numbers of people seem to find it hilarious to put up videos of good musicians matched with audio tracks that make them sound rubbish. I don't get it either.

There are a few that have been done using Maiden footage, like this one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTCP0jk3cX4

The sound was not from Vai, someone recorded this noise and added it to the video.
The cheers sound fake as well (like it was in a small bar).
:)
