Songs that never really worked well live

Dick Brucinson

The TRUE Dick Brucinson
Are there any songs you'd consider 'problematic' when played live?
Those ones that come to my mind immediately are Rainmaker and Stratego = definitely great each in their studio versions, but live Bruce was obviously struggling, and they came nowhere even near to the studio versions.
Just a very personal opinion of course, many will have liked them in the set.
Your thoughts on any other songs that didn't work out very well?

This question is a bit singer-dependent....

Murders in the Rue Morgue with Bruce on vocals, I just don't think he can nail the vocal line.

Blaze clearly ran into trouble due to the tuning on many classic songs from the Bruce era.

Two songs that felt more studio songs than live cuts for me are: The Legacy (specific structure) and Tears Of A Clown.

Can I Play with Madness.

Wasted Years wasn't great live up until around 2008 but has been great since then.

Otherwise I think I prefer the live version of every Maiden track.

Aces High- 2012-2014 and post-2018 (sorry, everyone!)

Fallen Angel seemed a bit clunky.

The verses and chorus of The Red and the Black. The instrumental was glorious and remains one of the best things I have seen Maiden do onstage.

Bruce singing along to the prerecorded intro for If Eternity Should Fail. Cool concept, but a botched execution.

Journeyman and paschendale for me boring on cd and live.

Longest day is a 10/10 song but imposible to sing it right live. Very difficult.
Hard disagree on the first two you mentioned. The only messy versions of Paschendale I can recall were from 2010. The 2003 DOTR version is incredible. Journeyman is good as well.

I can see what you mean about Longest Day, but the high notes never bothered me in this one. It was phenomenally good live. Especially the instrumental.

Im going to say that ive never been in a boring or bad iron maiden show and its true but if i have to rank the worst but not bad would be Dotr tour and TFF tour, apart from blaze era. Thats another part.

Murders in Rue Morgue is always problematic with Bruce live.
Every Bruce song was problematic with Blaze.
Aces High is problematic nowadays.
Death of the Celts, Tears of the Clown weren't that bad, but I think they slowed down the set a bit. They were the most boring song of their particular tours.
I honestly never liked Writing on the wall live too.
