Ancient Mariner
While looking for the history of English language on the web, I found a recording of the Lord's Prayer in Old English ( c. 1000) which I thought was so "exotic" that I had to share it with you. (anyway Modern English still sounds exotic to me)

Here's the link to the [a href=\'http://www.georgetown.edu/cball/oe/LP-all.wav\' target=\'_blank\']recording[/a]

and the link to the [a href=\'http://www.wordorigins.org/histeng.htm\' target=\'_blank\']transcription[/a]

I'm speechless... [!--emo&--]/blink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'blink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

that was awesome sly! great find. the word "forgive" (forgyf) is phonetically identical.

I know that prayer, I actually had to learn it when I was in elementary school.

You mean you know it in in old English? because I think every Christian at least knows it in their own language.

LOL, so you know it in english and french? hu HU, and yes you have to answer that one! In fact new question how many people know it in more than one? just as a survey.
I'm assuming battlemaniacs knows it in French and English
I know it in English and Spanish.

Actually, until a few hours ago, I always thought it was an «exclusive» french prayer and er.... I think I never really knew the whole thing. Anyway, it's been a lont time since I heard any kind of prayer so you could say that I once knew it in French but I no longer do.

Hope that answer the question. [!--emo&^_^--]/happy.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'happy.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I know the Lord's Prayer in (modern) English and in Latin, but this Old English version has a much more "poetic" quality to it.

The sort of flow that I associate with riddles (for which the Anglo-Saxon tounge was famous) is definately present. If you follow along with the text and have a basic understanding of Grimm's Law (how pronounciation shifts over time in a language) and how the pronounciation of the weird-looking letters, you can figure most of it out.

Excellent link!!!!
