SERIOUS WARNING/REQUEST CONCERNING THREADS ABOUT THE TOUR

Since the Maiden tour kicks off in the United States this week, I thought I would post a little warning/request here.

You are welcome to post any thread about the current tour, to share your experiences or whatever. However, please consider a few things:

-Most people don't like to know any details before they go to the gig
-Most people who post here are from Europe, so the earliest they will get to see Maiden is November.

Thus, I politely but stricktly ask you,

-NOT to include ANY details in the thread's subject line (For example, a subject line reading "They played <insert song title here>!!!!!!!!!!" is a SERIOUS offense)
-PLEASE include the word "SPOILER" in your thread's subject line. This is crucial, and not doing so is considered a serious offense as well
-Just to make sure, use the spoiler tags in your post(s) (the little button that looks like the nuclear symbol)

I AM NOT POSTING THIS FOR FUN, FOLKS!

Thank you and enjoy your respective gigs!
 
Are you posting this for fun perun? are you bored at work again? I strictly suggest you write another song if that's the case, those are funnier than this... thing here. Or any more adventures about "P"? You have to resolve all the cliff hangers!!!
 
Yeah, someone already spoiled it for me and I'm trying to prevent this from happening to others, so I won't show any mercy at all.
 
If you're that concerned about having the surprize ruined, Per, maybe an internet forum dedicated to Iron Maiden isn't exactly the right place for you.
 
How very constructive, Duke. Just because shit happened to me, does that mean I should just let it happen to others even if I can prevent it?
 
What I'm saying, Per, is that you have to expect this sort of thing to happen when you associate with people who are excited to share their experiences about an event.
Furthermore, unless you list consequences of these "serious" offences, I see very little incentive to adhere to your suggestions.

And you ARE posting for fun. Your fun. You want to protect the integrity of your own concert-going experience. That's perfectly fine, just don't get so self-rightous about it, ok.
 
Duke, there are rules on a forum, and there are moderators to ensure these rules are being followed.
It is fine for people to share their experiences, but it is a rule that they use spoiler warnings.
If they break the rules, they get warned and their posts get either edited or deleted; if they break the rules repeatedly, they get banned (and if they re-register, they get banned immediately, even if their new login did not break any rules).

AND I AM NOT POSTING FOR FUN. My concert-going experience was already deliberately spoiled by a little arsehole whom I won't lose any further words about. I see it as my task as a moderator (and since I was elected and I have to justify my actions before the site admins) to prevent this from happening to others. Please don't talk about things you don't know shit about, Duke.
 
So it's free speech as long as it's not something you don't want to hear. :huh:
(yeah, I know it's a private venue, but still)


More to the point - if people are so darn concerned about spoilers and whatnot, I think they should have the common sense to NOT read a forum dedicated to discussing the topic. It's like being paranoid about getting burnt while you continue to play with fire.
 
Duke, you still have no idea what I'm talking about. The spoiler tags were introduced to let people discuss things others don't want to hear about. It was made clear a very long time before that using them is obligatory when talking about gigs of the current tour. Not using them in such a case is against the forum rules. These are the rules of the forum, and if you don't like them, nobody forces you to visit this forum.

As a matter of fact, I am not so pissed about having read the setlist beforehand -I expected it to happen sooner or later- as I am about the way it happened (which was in a PM exchange with a worthless prat who did it just to piss me off).
 
Per, I know exactly what you're talking about, and I understand your point perfectly well. I just don't agree with it.

As for the little douche who did that via a PM, that's a different story altogether. There's no need of it (something we both agree on, at least)
 
OK, Duke, let's agree to disagree (as always, actually). The thing only is, I'm enforcing the rules of this board as a moderator. I'm not the only one, either. As a matter of fact, Maverick and Real World are alarmingly harmonic on this subject matter in the Mod forum as well. I'm not going to pass the responsibility to someone else here, I just want to point out that I'm not being self-righteous here (as a matter of fact, I didn't even pin this thread, someone else did).
 
I think it's about time for me to jump into this sterile little discussion...

First off, Perun is doing the right thing and has my entire support. A lot of people come here to read about Maiden, but not necessarily to know the setlist. This forum is very rich in all sorts of discussions and some visitors enjoy it without particularly looking for the setlist of the current tour. So let's not spoil the 'fun' for them.

Duke, you're right in saying that it's a bit like playing with fire, but this forum has rules in order to prevent it from turning into the (now defunct) IMBB. Those rules are a safeguard against a lot of morons who otherwise would pollute this place, and I expect the mods to enforce them, no matter how harshly at times. These boards are what they are thanks to the rules and those who enforce them, and the moderation's been perfect so far.
 
Duke I am one of those persons Perun described.  Let me tell you that I can't read any of the songs' commentaries due to the fact that I don't want to see something along the lines of "it sounded great live" etc.  Ergo I cannot discuss for 2 months about any song at all.  That is something I really don't like. 
 
i agree with perun, not everyone wants to know. i personally was a little happy about knowing the setlist before hand, but others aren't and i understand where you're coming from, i think you're doing the right thing too

and put
in the subject. *I* don't want to know the set list and I'm doing a pretty good job of not finding out despite the fact I run this website. It's not hard to do and its not unfair to ask people to do it. It doesn't stop ANYONE talking about the tour - just warns those who chose not to know

Yeah, it's like coming home after a long day at work eagerly waiting to watch a major World Cup game and then one of your family members blurts out the score... AH!  I just want to strangle them.  That's after I've told them countless times "I DON'T WISH TO KNOW THE SCORE, I'LL WATCH THE GAME WHEN I COME HOME".  And then they look at you, like they don't understand. AH! :nuts: <*searches frantically for the Smiley banging head on desk*>
 
Oh dear. I'm actually one of those people more interested in the score than anything else (at first) :blush:. Like if I come home and I know theres a World Cup game on I invariably ask who's playing and what's the score. Then I watch the game (if it promises to be good and I have the time). That being said, I only go around telling people the score of things if they ask me to. It should be the same with the setlist. Go look at the setlist if you want to, but don't spoil it for others who don't want to. Respect other people's whims, fancies, interests, opinions, feelings, the whole lot. I absolutely agree with the mods on this one, although I do see your point IronDuke about people who play with fire and don't expect to get burnt.
