Ancient Mariner
I hope I didn't open this topic too early but forgive me, I am very enthusiastic about this track, at this moment.
I hadn't played it in ages and Yesterday I found a strong live version on YouTube. (The problem with sharing Saga on YouTube is that there isn't any studio material available, at least not in my country).

But first, who are Saga? Saga is one of Nicko McBrain's favourite bands and their fourth album Worlds Apart (1981) is his all time favourite album by any band.

Saga is especially popular in Germany. When they come over to Europe their tour pretty much looks like this: 20-30 gigs in Germany and a few in the Netherlands.

Their album career is longer than Maiden's and their music can best be described as progressive rock with lots of dynamic and catchy melodies which give the band a poppy sound as well. The keyboards play a big role but the guitar style by Ian Crichton is also pretty trademark. There are various interesting albums but especially songs.

One of my favourite songs is Mouze in a Maze from their second album Images at Twilight, from 1979.
The cover is quite an image...

...As more of them arrive
  His path is more disguised
Confusion seems to cloud his every thought

But it's been this way before
          Stares at the final door
          The one he's missed
Each time he's been around, around...

This is interesting. I'm a sucker for keyboard/guitar unison and they have that right off the bat. It's pretty good, I don't care for the singer much, but besides that, this song is very enjoyable. I really like the guitar parts. Catchy, fun song. 8/10

P.S. You forgot the poll again!

I'm sorry. Added the poll.

Cool you like it!
To compensate I'll give you this song (to try and get you more into Saga).  :D

Reminds me a bit of Queen, to honest this is the first time I've heard of Saga. Their singer is amazing and I'm really loving the guitar riffs. 9

Great tune, great band. A Canadian act that is almost unknown in their home country. Here's an interesting note, Forostar... my cousin Chris Sutherland was the touring drummer for them on their last European tour. His regular gig is with the Kim Mitchell Band, another Canadian act. This is a high 8.

Wow. Interesting choice. I didn't think anyone else here knew this song.

I love Saga, and this song is very good. However, the chorus is too repetitive and it gets annoying. It always bugs when this song come on the ipod at work. Wish I could go higher, but 7/10.

Cool! I think I have seen him playing with Saga in 2007.

My favourite part is the one without lyrics, with the heavy keyboard layers and the stimulating ta-da-da-da riff slicing through it. Love the drums as well. Fantastic.

I'm going to attend a show here in Switzerland on Novermber 26th with Marillion and Saga (co-headliner).

I think about going in December.

Yes, that's why I put up with the chorus.  :)

I gave it a listen and to be honest, it's not really my cup of tea. I don't think it's a bad song and not the sort I would turn the radio off for so for that reason.....5.

I haven't thought about this band for years.
Know them from a couple FM radio tracks from my teenage years.
Can't say I ever got into them a lot, but I did (and do) like what I've heard.
Including this one, which I did not know.
Good choice. I think I will go browse their catalogue.
