This song is from Gates of Ishtar, a Gothenburg sound era band with a black metallish edge, active between 1992 and 1998.
I admit that the vocalist is hard to understand, but I think that the screams by Mikael Sandorf help portraying the intensity and atmosphere very well.
The music still rules in this song, Seasons of Frost, from their debut album A Bloodred Path from 1996 (original version, not the remastered version which killed the brilliant atmospheric keyboard contribution starting at 1.55).
I can hear the influence of Iron Maiden in this band (like in most Gothenburg style metal bands) and personally, I think this band kicks the ass of many metal bands playing these days. Very aggressive and powerful music, excellent drums by Oskar Karlsson, good melodies and roaring guitars. Not overproduced. Raw and good.
I love the midpiece especially (@ 1.55; play it on f'king 10!). The keyboard melody does it, and the rest of the music takes over in a nice way, guided by drummer Karlsson, who contributes well to the intensified build-up.
Enjoy: Gates of Ishtar - Seasons of Frost
As silence reaps the shadows of frost, a path stands clear to me
Leading me - into eternal winters...
Some other time I will post another Gates of Ishtar song from their second album which is quite different.
