LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular U.S. 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday.

DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner's Office said. She said an autopsy was under way on Monday to determine the cause of death.

"I can't even find the words to say," Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali said on his Web site. "Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow."

Quiet Riot, which was founded in Los Angeles in the mid-1970s, shot to the top of the Billboard charts with their smash 1983 album "Metal Health." It sold more than 6 million copies and is considered by many to be the first heavy metal record to top the pop charts.

The album's sales were spurred on by the band's monster hit, "Cum on Feel the Noize," featuring DuBrow's powerhouse vocal, and the song's video, which was played in heavy rotation on MTV.

Quiet Riot's follow-up albums did not sell nearly as well and DuBrow was essentially fired from the band amid the ensuing rancor.

DuBrow regrouped Quiet Riot in the 1990s and the band has since played sporadically, last releasing an album in October 2006.

I'm really sad to hear this. I was hugely into Metal Health when it came out. Cheesy as it may seem today, I still love the songs "Bang Your Head" and "Slick Black Cadillac".

I was quite sad to hear of his passing this morning.  Like SMX, I to was heavily into Metal Health back in the day.  I still listen to the songs.  Kevin was a good singer and he will be missed.

Kevin DuBrow's Death

My husband turned me on to Metal Health this year (for years, I thought it was Mental health, shows you what I know lol  :P) and when we saw that, I was shocked! He had a pretty high voice. I've always loved Cum On Feel the Noize and the title track, but the whole album is good!

It didn't mention the cause of death, but I was thinking maybe OD/suicide? I dunno, it seems that's the way musicians wanna kill themselves these days...

I though QR was doing like small bar shows and what not...maybe something bad happened to drive Kevin over the edge? Who knows?

Sorry that he's passed away  :(

I just read in my local paper yesterday that Kevin died of an accidental cocaine overdose. My suspicion was right...that's scary he was only 52. He's the age of Maiden's folks. Such a waste... -_-

The difference is that, according to all recent sources, the members of Maiden are (currently) clean.

Yeah, I figured that. But I'm sure back in the day they tried that hard shit...I've read Harris stayed away from all of it. It's almost unaviodable, wouldn't you say?
