Questions about LAD DVD and possible problem

I have a few questions about the new LAD DVD - I am worried I might have purchased a bootleg copy.

The one I surprisingly found for sale before street date does not have a Columbia/Sony screen come up when it stars, but has a Universal Music screen, then a New Door Records logo. I thought the band was signed to Columbia/Sony in the USA and EMI for the rest of the world?

Also, I cannot get the promo video for 'Aces High' (located in the bonus features on disc two) to work at all. No problems with the rest of the DVD - well, except the sad state of the Rock In Rio 85 footage - but this video stops everytime before Churchill's speech is done. I have tried it in 8 different DVD players (4 stand alones, one Playstation 2 and 3 computers) and it will not play in any of them.

We did compare the new LAD to the Brazilian boot that came out a few years back and the picture and sound quality have improved on the new version, although I did expect them to have pulled out all the stops as far as cleaning up the 35 mm print. Considering how this was filmed, namely on film, when compared to other restored 35 mm film prints like the Queen Rock Montreal DVD and even The Grateful Dead movie it just doesn't seem like  Maiden pulled out all the stops like they usually do.

Sorry to bitch, but I am a longtime Maiden fan - 25+ years - and I just wanted to speak my mind...

Hmmm... the official release is through New Door Records in the US, but it's not due until Feb 5th (check at the bottom line of the announcement on im.com). If you really do have an official version and it's riddled with these problems 2 things come in my mind:

a) hope the EU version is OK
b) shit-storm coming!

What issues?  Never heard of them, but then I wasn't a Maiden fan yet when DotR was released.

There were, apparently, syncing and skipping issues from Brave New World onwards on one of the discs (the regular one, I think)

The DOTR problems look like this:

So from your story it seems there are two major problems:
1. I cannot get the promo video for 'Aces High' (located in the bonus features on disc two) to work at all.
2. No problems with the rest of the DVD - well, except the sad state of the Rock In Rio 85 footage - but this video stops everytime before Churchill's speech is done.

--------------

I bought it myself some hours ago and can already conclude that I don't have the first problem. I haven't seen all the material yet, so I'll get back to it.

It is just the one problem. The Aces High video is what won't play. Sorry, my description might make it sound like there was another problem during the Rock In Rio footage, but there wasn't. At least not yet - haven't finished it yet!

Nicko's story of the
swimming pool in the middle of ROTAM
is hilarious! I also had to laugh very hard when
they started talking about Mission from 'Arry
.

A great pleasure to watch this all!

I know this won't help you guys, but everything works perfectly for me.
Another thing: On my DVD, the Rock In Rio footage does not feature Churchill's Speech at all...

I'd pay the same money for the second disc alone. Superb, magnificent and brilliant product!!

Love all those documentaries and (these for me never seen before) performances. Excellent, can't find enough superlatives!

Maybe we should open another topic (in the Commentary part?) with everyone's opinions on it, or does this one suit fine?

For the people who had already bought it...

Does the DVD contains the complete Rock in Rio show or just the highlights?

Just the stuff that could be restored well enough to show it on DVD (if I understod the booklet well enough).
So not the whole setlist.

And before you'll be disappointed: The general quality of the footage is rather low. But the vibe gets through! :)

After the first couple of songs the quality gets a bit better, I thought.

Well, considering HD didnt exist then, its great footage. I mean, after the Early Days DVD, what was anyone expecting? Rock In Rio/Death On the Road quality footage?

Besides, the sound is just........ :yey:

This is by far the best way to show people how great Maiden are.

It was what i expected... i have an AVI file with the whole show and the quality is a little better than crap.

And about tha LAD show... Is the quality at least great?

I can't wait to have this DVD in my hands.

I was only referring to the Rock In Rio footage. The Live After Death footage is, of course, as perfect as we all expect it.

By the way, I don't want to say that the Rock In Rio video isn't enjoyable. It's grand.
