Emmy-winning actor Patrick McGoohan, best known for starring in cult 1960s TV show The Prisoner, has died at the age of 80.

He died in Los Angeles after a short illness, his film producer son-in-law Cleve Landsberg said.

McGoohan played the character Six in the surreal 1960s show, filmed in the north Wales village of Portmeirion.

He won two Emmy awards for his work on TV detective series Columbo, playing different characters.

The first came for an episode of the series in 1974, with another 16 years later.

In more recent years, McGoohan played King Edward Longshanks in the 1995 Mel Gibson film Braveheart.

RIP Patrick!

RIP!

I just checked his filmography and I didn't realize that he also played side by side with Clint Eastwood in Escape from Alcatraz (1979), and he had an uncredited role in the British war classic The Dam Busters (1955).

And for watchers of classic UK TV. He also starred in another cult TV show - Danger Man.

Always will he be remembered by Maiden fans for that simple comment:

"A rock band you say? Do it."

Or something like that!

I just heard about his passing today and was quite sad.    :(  I loved him in The Prisoner.  I don't think anyone could have played the role of Six better than he did.  I will miss him.

Haha indeed Albie, great story that was by Bruce on that DVD :)

Yesterday I decided to see Escape from Alcatraz (for the third time or something), in which McGoohan plays a cruel prison(!)warden, as a kind of tribute but also because my wife didn't know it yet. Dry, humoristic dialogues, with a big portion of tension.

I tell you another film that he starred in - David Cronenbergs Scanners, with Michael Ironside. I haven't seen it in a while, but I did see it around 25 years ago. Good film, from what I recall.
