Here's something that might surprise you: electroshock therapy is being used as a form of behavior control for special needs children.

The Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC) — a special needs school in Canton, Massachusetts — systemically utilizes electroshock therapy to restrain students who they deem are acting out. These painful treatments are nothing less than torture. Newly released video footage shows a teen strapped face-down to a gurney and being shocked over 30 times. The video shows him screaming in pain.

Following the "therapy" session, the teen was diagnosed with acute stress and suffered long-term physical distress.

How is this legal? These forms of torture are grave human rights offenses that cannot be allowed to continue, and it's so serious that we need the president to step in.
:mad:OMFG!!! This is horrible! Why the fuck is this legal?!?! PLEASE sign the petition!

Thank you for bringing this to light, Travis. I thought this hadn't been done since the '60's, but I guess I was wrong... how sad.

I can't sign anything since I'm not from U.S., but you have my full support on this disgusting issue.
Sometimes those Islamic eye-for-eye laws don't seem like a bad option. These so called professors ought to have their balls connected to power grid.

In terms of forced treatment (which I assume this is) I was unaware as well, but as a treatment in general it certainly still exists although for a very different purpose to this.

Electroshock does exist for people, but usually adults who agree to it. Nobody under the age of majority should be subjected to electroshock.

As Zare, I cannot sign it, but I wish you the best of luck.

That's what I meant. The use of it as basically a form of torture. I was aware of it still being used as a last ditch attempt, with consent, but I do not recall what conditions even merit it.

Electro Cognitive Therapy, I don't think the idea is to make you like associate a certain action with receiving pain but to sort of mentally condition.

This on the other hand does sound far more like a punishment.

What in the wide world.....?
This sounds nothing like electro convulsive therapy, which is done under sedation, and is done in an attempt to stimulate certain parts of the brain, not to 'punish' a particular psychological response
