So I like writing letters an unfortunately I've had to resort to typing them for two reasons: 1. lack of time to sit down and handwrite it and 2. I document so much crap at work already it kinda has taken the joy out of handwriting anything. However a friend told me to keep up the typing since now they are more legible... fucking smart ass.
Still I write a few friends of course on different subjects. i burn and review cds for my friend in Michigan and he returns the favor.... once in a while. I haven't written my family back "home", but I also try to keep that up and a few friends here in town.
Exchanging letters is a surprisingly hard enterprise! I've written letters to easily 30 people only to have 5 write back while others facebook/myspace me back, "hey got your letter! Thanks!" Um... yeah, now send me one back dammit!
I've been writing letters for several reasons. One is a response to our addiction to the internet and the here/now mentality, also it is rather fun to get something else in the mail other than bills. One reason that also has come to mind is that as wonderful and documented as digital information is it is so impermanent. How many threads have been deleted? How many e-mails do you no longer have? Instead my stack of letters keeps growing. My mom still has hers from her college years etc. I wonder what happens now when a famous person dies and they want to scrutinize their lives. We have letter exchanges between Marx and Engels and their buddies... Letters between St. Anselm and some douche who didn't understand his arguments, etc. Now profiles can be deleted. It takes less effort and mess than say burning paper... IMO anyway.
Point of it all is the following. One of my pen paling buddies recommend it postcrossing.com where people sign up and get a random world address and they have to send a post card and of course they get one back (at least) from people across the globe. I told him thanks, but no thanks since I rather exchange with people I already know to some extent, but I liked the idea of exchanging from people far and away...
I "know" people on here and I think it would be fun if we wrote each other beyond PMs, e-mails and posts on the madness forums.
Anyone in? if so *cough* pm me *cough*
