Influenced by the_ancient_mariners glass chewing man topic.

My second topic about my thoughts, hopefully it will be received better than the last one (stereotyping).

Today im going to talk about the pleasure in other peoples pain I have been seeing lately. Now forgive me if im wrong, but when did looking at other people dying or being in severe pain become funny.
I have sat next to many of my friends who are looking at the disgusting pictures on rotten.com which include children whos hands have been sucked into garbage disposal machines, or men who have been decapitated by a helicopter. Now personally, I don’t find these funny. But for example, I have a friend who spends almost all his time on this site, just browsing through the death and pain pictures. The same goes for these funny/extreme video sites like killsometime.com, which has videos of people getting hit by cars, and in one case. A disaster in a foreign country where about 100 people fall through a dance floor at a wedding, many of whom died screaming, and I have seen people almost piss themselves at this.
On a lesser extent the same goes for shows such as you’ve been framed, In many cases I have seen videos of children fall over and hit their heads on concrete and start crying, meanwhile the entire studio audience is laughing….how does ‘that’ make sence

Now I do know, in some cases pain can end up being funny….I watched shows like dirty sanchez, and laughed. But I ask you…..When did peoples deaths become funny, and why do people revel in other peoples pain?

There was a thread like this not long ago, and I think the conclusion was that people genreally no longer care for anything unless it happens to themselves or any of their closest relatives or loved ones. It's really sad.

:: Other's people pain was considered entertaining since... ancient times. Do GLADIATOR FIGHTS tell you anything?

True, but you'd like to think we are a bit more civilised nowadays. But then again....

I think it's peoples morbid curiosity, initially, to see how much they can take. Then the less of a shock value it becomes, the more blase they become about it. At this point it seems less of a reality to them.

Are we? We just fake the deaths now. So we can watch our favourite people being slain over and over again....

I personally dont really like watching other people in extreme pain. Though watching my little cousin run into a wall and start crying is mostly hilarious, watching videos or pictures of people in extreme pain (getting shot, losing body parts, ect.) make me wanna puke if anything, not laugh.

Seeing someone decapitated/in true horrific pain is not funny.

Seeing someone fall over and land flat on their face/walk into a glass door is hysterical.

I'm really bad for laughing at people when they do something like that. I did it when I was a toddler, only then I was a lot less discreet, I absolutly screamed with laughter, much to this persons annoyance and my parents embarressment. ::

I tried reading your post, brother_of_the_7th_son, I really did. However, I failed. Rewrite it and try again.

...I was actually thinking about doing that anyway, I will edit it tonight or tomorow, to busy right now.

It's not just that, even the title and sub title are horribly spelt.

On topic, I think it's human nature to laugh at people when they get hurt. We are all selfish, looking out for ourselves only and when we see a rival humonoid getting hurt, sub conciously we think we have a better chance or survival or whatever. We are just animals at the end of the day. [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/cool.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"B)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"cool.gif\" /]

Well, we all have to find laughs where we can, and more often than not one of our friends getting themselves absolutely humiliated in an amusing manner is a good outlet for laughter. After all, how stupid do you have to be to walk into a glass door (although, saying that, I have walked into mosquito nets on doors while on holiday...okay, shut up, it was at night, okay? [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":P\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" /] ). But I think taking it to the point where we laugh at people being in serious pain is just stupid. If they do something that's not going to do lasting damage, and is quite funny, sure, laugh at them, but not if they get a bit of glass stuck in their eye or something like that. That's just plain sadism.

And incidentally, Guy getting 'electrocuted'! (yeah, believe that, and you'll believe anything [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/dry.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"<_<\" border=\"0\" alt=\"dry.gif\" /])

I guess some people dont realize that death is real, and not funny.
