Not exactly metal per se, but....

Anybody else a fan of goth/doom rock?

I certainly am. Bands like Candlemass, Type O Negative, My Dying Bride, and Theatre of Tragedy rank amongst some of my favorite bands of all time.

My Dying Bride and Theatre of Tragedy are listed as death/doom metal, if I remember correctly. Not sure of the other ones. I've listened to a bit of doom metal before, and I can't say I dislike it, but it's certainly not my favourite style. A bit on the slow side for me.

I'm with Searanox, I don't think there is doom rock... only doom/death/vampire/goth metal. I have to say it depends on the band. Some Death I really like, some I really despise.
Death metal has almost nothing to do with doom metal, but death/doom would be slow and apocolyptic (as doom metal is) with the harsh screamed/grunted vocals of death metal. It might share some other attributes like fast drumming.

Gothic tends to be metal with lots of classical instruments (such as violins) and tragic melodies used. Often uses a mix of operatic, female, and black metal vocals.

Don't know enough about vampire metal to say anything about it, but I do know it's a relatively small sub-sub-genre.

well if you want to be picky yeah, there are subtle differences between the subgenres I mentioned but they are similar enoug (at leat to me) to lump them together. Like, in flames and opeth are very differnt bands yet they are both death metal. I think Haggard is mainly gothic, yet because of the vocals I still call it Death. So pfft.

Have I mentioned how I hate (ok ok dislike) picky people like you [!--emo&:D--]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--]. I know their is subtle differences from instruments to vocal arrangements. but If they growl or rasp, they are death, if you want to keep dividing after that go ahead, but usually the best answer is the simplest one. and in this case is that all the sub-genres I lumped together are death.
