Google has a new tool called Ngram that shows statistics for word usage in the world's literature. Type in any comma separated list of words or phrases to see a chart.
I typed in "Iron Maiden" to see the graph. There is fair usage for the phrase "Iron Maiden" throughout history, beginning around 1855 with peaks in 1900 and 1939. Then around 1979, for some reason, the line runs up off the graph.
It's interesting to see the fluctuations and return of popularity through the late 90's and early 00's.
