Hi,
I need your participation again...
Despite the publication of new works about metal (such as the ones of Glenn T. Pillsbury, Fabien Hein, Nicolas Besnard, Alexis Mombelet, Nicolas Walzer or Robert Culat just to quote those), there is no choice but to accept that the books that have been references for a long time are still the ones that are considered as "definitive".
The "winning quartet" is:
WEINSTEIN, Deena. 2000.
Heavy Metal: the Music and its Culture. New York : Da Capo Press Edition.
ARNETT, Jeffrey Jensen. 1996.
Metal Heads: Heavy Metal Music and Adolescent Alienation. Oxford : Westview Press.
WALSER, Robert. 1993.
Running with the Devil: Power, Gender, and Madness in Heavy Metal Music. Hanover. Wesleyan/University Press Of New England.
BERGER, Harris, M. 1999
Metal, Rock, and Jazz: Perception and the Phenomenology of Musical Experience. Hanover. Wesleyan/University Press Of New England.
These four writers are some kind of exegetes of the "metal religion" and their studies constitute the "Holy words".
So I can't ignore them; furthermore, I have to base my judgement on them for my own research. But don't worry I don't have to say "Amen !" to every printed thing in the books; that would beat everything!
In his book, the professor Arnett tried to determine the characteristics of the teenagers that build up the "Metal tribe". To do that, he uses metalheads' profiles.
From my own point of you, I think that Arnett tends to generalize too much and he also seems to draw the conclusions he wants to. In order to check his assumption to validate or invalidate them, I have to use the same tools.
So, here is the model of profile he used. I have scanned two of the nine reprinted in his book

Arnett tars all the metalheads with the same brush. Nevertheless, we all know that a Cannibal Corpse fan might be quite different from a Def Leppard's or Guns’n’Roses' fan.
My ambition is to refine Arnett's analysis for the Maiden Fans. So in addition to my previous survey, I'd like to collect fans' profiles to be included in my research. The choice of the reproduced ones will be in accordance with the figures made thanks to the survey.
So, I hope that many of you will contribute so that the future readers of my research will get data that can be compared and confronted.
At the risk of repeating myself, I count on your total honesty for the given information. I'm aware that many questions, such as the consumption of prohibited substances, are very delicate but as they were asked by Arnett, I have to do the same in order to have the equivalent profiles.
I've just added a few questions (fan club, country of residence) in order to determine the representativeness of the profiles.

Then you can send me the filled form at my email address : ironthesis@yahoo.fr
Thanks in advance for your collaboration (which unfortunately won't be the last …)
See you soon,
Cordially,
Jean-Philippe
