Most overrated metal album

Kynisk Sokol

Ancient Mariner
This kind of thread has probably been done before but I thought what the hell, why not? So if there's any of you out there who have been let down by the reccomendations from magazines or friends or whatever, please share your view. It's nice to get it out, I'm not doing this to tarnish reputations or tastes or anything like that. My choice would have to be Metallica's black album. I kept hearing my friends and many reviews going on and on about this album but I didn't really think much of it. Believe me, I gave a good few spins but it just felt so sterile, drawn out and restricted. Sure Enter Sandman was a good opener but that was it really. Now I really love ...And Justice For All and I don't want to bring up the whole sell-out issue up but I remember my mates getting agitated when I said it was overrated. I don't see why this album is viewed as a masterpiece of metal by a lot of people especially when there's a lot of underrated bands circling outside the radar and people just blow them off. Ah well, that's just what I think anyway, please don't flame me, just share some opinions that's all and maybe give an example of an underrated band that you feel deserves attention. Cathedral seem to be ignored for some reason... [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

It's funny alright when some commercial cash cow band just throws random junk into an 'album' and then releases it. Then of course, people, being the idiots that they are go out and buy it in droves. Corporate rock sure does suck! Crepitant Grindcore! Just has to say that for some reason... The 'Black Album', I just can't see any good in it, rotten to the core, extremely boring album as well.

Best right now: Kiko Loureiro - No Gravity

Dream Theatre.

Any Dream Theater album in particular? And no, I'm not going to attack you with missiles, tomatoes or anything you wouldn't like. Anybody here into Atheist?

anything by dream theatre [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/lol[1].gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'lol[1].gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I've got Unquestionable Presence. Kick ass man! And this gets doomed to obscurity while lumpen dirge soars high above it. It's not fair [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/mad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'mad.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Yeah, we don't need the media overhyping all that now do we?

NP: Dissection - At The Fathomless Depths (live)

Slayer - Reign in Blood. what a load of hype and not much end product. It is a decent album but I have seen it described as "one of the best metal albums of all time.©"

Yeah Slayer gets a lot of hype but mostly because around my area, teeny boppers have latched on to Slayer. As well as a few other good ones. The rest of the bands they like are just plastic shite and they can keep them all they want.

really overrated.

how do you dare!!!!! [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/mad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'mad.gif\' /][!--endemo--] It`s a great album

Back on topic, anything by Slipknot [!--emo&:o--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/ohmy.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'ohmy.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Yeah, I'm sure you're sick of the media overhyping all these gimmicky bands as well. I hate bands that rely on some cheap gimmcik or controversy to sell records. Marilyn Manson wouldn't be loaded with cash if it weren't for the whole "satanic" slant would he now?

He might. Without all the make-up and creepy contacts he'd make a nice posh businessman [!--emo&:D--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--] .

Well in a way these "bands" are businessmen. Write some trendy crap and find a way to shove it down people's throats and make them buy it. It's been working for quite a while now...

That's what I meant.
Actually, they all are businessmen, only some more ruthless [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
