The METALLICA documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" will premiere on VH1 on April 9 with a commercial-free prime time airing. Variety reports that the network payed a rumored half a million dollars for the exclusive four-year rights to the film.

As previously reported, "Some Kind of Monster" won the prize for Best Documentary at the 2005 IFP Independent Spirit Awards, held on Saturday (Feb. 26) in Santa Monica, California. The Independent Spirit Awards, which traditionally take place in a beachfront tent, honor films that are funded at least in part through sources outside the major Hollywood studios. Although "Some Kind of Monster" was initially funded by METALLICA's label, Elektra Records, the group themselves eventually picked up the entire $4 million cost of the film.

The film chronicles METALLICA's near-breakup as they dealt with internal struggles during the making of 2003's "St. Anger" album. The movie opened in theatres last July and arrived on DVD in January.

metallica hasn't been good since And Justice for all... Why should we feel sorry for a bunch of alchohalic sell outs and support them by filling their fat wallets with more money. they are just in it for the money. I dont like Metallica anymore however, the film is pretty good. Worth checking out. Its fascinating to watch them all bitch at each other and you`ll also notice how HUGE an influence Bob Cock....I mean Rock, has on the band now. He`s the fifth member.

Yeah since that man got together with them, they have been but a shell of the band they were.May still cut it live, but shite records since the last dozen years or so.

Metallica's old stuff are good but the St. Anger album really suck [!--emo&:cussing:--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/cussing[1].gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'cussing[1].gif\' /][!--endemo--]

The Black album was still a very good record with plenty of classic material. and if you compare load and reload to St. Anger they are actually decent albums (not that i'd purchase them). Also compilations like Garage inc are worth getting since you get material which was either previously unreleased or no longer available. The documentary is also worth watching because it deals with their lives and their personal struggles not so much the music.
