Metalfans.co.uk Discussion

Work is about to start again on metalfans.co.uk following the release of Haze for PS3.
I'm starting this discussion to open up some ideas about what we can do and what you would be interested in.

The general premise of Metalfans is to offer something a little different to the metal websites currently around. We want to embrace the metal community and encourage contributions from everyone and hopefully help people discover new bands and music.

My idea for this is to focus more on smaller and unsigned bands rather than the major bands. Obviously we will provide news on those bands too but the emphasis would be on bands you may not know about. We want to build up a list of related bands so if you're reading about Maiden in the news it may suggest you check out Helloween. We want to encourage bands to post about their band and their gigs. Much like mySpace in that way but metal orientated and with pages that aggregate all that content together. We want to give you the opportunity to filter the news to show only items that are of interest to you. For example you may hate death metal with a passion. We would let you filter out all news from death metal bands.

We want to bring in content from last.fm so if you have audioscrobbler installed then we will collect your recently played tracks to get a better idea of what you listen to. We will also be able to generate weekly music and album charts from our readers.

We will reward all our contributers with .kudos points. (working title) for everything they submit. So for example submitting news you may get 10 points. For an album review 50 points etc. You can build up these points and use them elsewhere in the site. The finer details of what you can spend them on have yet to be worked out but it'll probably be one of our fun and games features which we will reveal later. You'll also be able to see a rank of who earned the most kudos.

We want to encourage the community to interact. Not just in the forums but across the site by recommending bands and submitting content and to help bands get the word out about their music.

Today I'm announcing these plans in the hope of getting some feedback from you about what you think about the idea, what you want from the site and if theres anything those bigger metal sites aren't covering. This is for the fans, by the fans. Lets make this rock

Could I ask a question in this topic?

Will there still be any room on forum.maidenfans.com for topics about other (metal) bands?

metalfans.co.uk sounds like a separate thing.

I enjoy discussing other bands with my forum mates so I sure hope that might be possible.

Cheers and thanks in advance, Forostar
